Alright all. I have some extremelly old pictures of Charles Lindburgh and the Spirit of St Louis taken by my great great grandfather at Wright Field in Dayton in August of 1927. The pictures are old and yellowed but for the most part are pretty clear. My question is, should I upload them based on the historical significance or just keep them for my personal collection? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Jeremy

I´d say give them a go. For sure they have historical significance. Don´t forget that this site is an aviation database, so such valuable photo records as yours will surely be appreciated.
You could maybe post here your images, so you can get some feedback on how to enhance them as much as possible.
Good luck! Big grin

Cheers!
Lanas.-

Get them uploaded!

Any photos from 1927 are of great historical importance not just to this site, but to aviation as a whole. I image they'll be very, very popular.

Tim.

Ok. I got the scanner fixed. Here is a rough scan of one of the pictures - this is generally the quality. Does quality play as big a part with historical photos like this?

Is this picture edited? Anyway it has a really good quality for this time!!!!

Give it a go! I am sure that picture of this significance will easily make it into the db! And if not, this site doesn't deserve them!
I got quite affected by just seeing this picture!

Cheers

This one is not edited in any way. I was very impressed with the quality as well when I originally scanned it. And I promise that is a genuine original taken by my great grandfather

Really historic but it will need cropping to remove the borders and correct the level
Stunning though, stunning, a real piece of history

If you would like some help with editing them, I'd be willing to give it a go.

Thanks for sharing that picture though; truly historic and I think it would make a valuable addition to the DB.

Tony

Thanks guys. I am trying to upload it, but it is proving very difficult since it is such a rare bird. I can't even list the date because the drop down menu only goes back to the early 1930's and this photo was taken Aug 7, 1927. Any help from the screeners is very much appreciated. One more thing, should I just upload into the normal que or is there a special place to upload these? Thanks.

PS - Who do I list as the photographer? My great grandfather?

Maybe just put it under 1930 and then add a comment saying that they should change it to 1927?

Normal queue.

Good luck. I'm looking forward to seeing this shot in the DB!

Good news! The photo was accepted into the DB. Here is another shot of the SSL, but I don't think I am going to attempt an upload of this one. I have another couple pics I will attempt, but those will have to wait for a few days. Meanwhile, for your viewing pleasure....

Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone. The credit goes to my great grandpa though. Without him, this photo wouldn't be here.
