Quoting Acontador (Reply 1): At 1024 with, as long as you keep the height between 683 and 768 it is OK. Most photogs seems to prefer the 'pure' 3:2 ratio, that is 1024 x 683.
Andres,
Hi! Thanks for the reply! 1024x683 actually was less pixels than 1024x768 so I was hoping to use something a bit larger (like 1050x700). But, you know, that's fine. I'll go with 1024x683.

Hi Tony,
Hey, you can use whatever size you want as long as the with/height ratio is between 3:2 and 4:3, and the image is at least 1000 pixels wide. Personally I prefer to use 1200 x 800.

Ah, OK. I somehow thought they were some "approved sizes". I'll stick to 1050x700 then! Thanks again!

A note of caution regarding 4:3 photos: some screeners appear to have a preference for 3:2 and may reject a 4:3 photo if, in their opinion, that aspect ratio results in a lot of unnecessary blank sky above and below the aircraft. Happened to me more than once.

Hi, thanks for the warning. I never had a rejection due to the 4:3 ratio. The two cameras I used so far basically used 4:3 and it was easiest to upload pictures at that ratio. My new one (XTi) uses 3:2 and I needed to start uploading at that ratio too. Even though I cropped to 4:3 on a couple of occasions, as it fits some images better.
Regards,
Tony

Has happened to me. Although it happens the other way sometimes. The Concorde shot I recently got accepted was originally uploaded as 3:2, but the consensus was that the aircraft was low in the frame. I brought it up, but this cut off some buildings at the top, so I then uploaded (and got accepted) a 4:3 version.

Same here. My camera (Olympus E-500) has a 4:3 ratio, so my eye has gotten used to composing images that way. I shoot that way, so I, naturally, prefer to crop that way too. Though, as stated above, there are exceptions to every rule.
