Hello!

I've been pondering about going to the Airportdays at Hamburg Airport in mid-September, the program sure looks good but before i decide I need to ask you guys some questions as the german website only provides information in German.(http://www.airport-days.de/de/index.htm)

First of all, is this show worth some 650km one way behind the wheel? - For me the participitation of Douglas DC-6 and Constellation sure sounds outstanding but are there any good photo opportunities at the public areas?

After a Very quick search I found no photos from previous occasions, is this the first airportdays at HAM?
If so, does anyone have a guess of what kind of parking situation there will be, is there a good place to park and then get on a bus or is it OK to drive all the way to the gates without sitting in traffic jam for hours? =)

Many questions and I hope I posted in the right forum!

Thanks in advance

Johan

Johan, according to the official site, the static display as well as public open areas will be at the Lufthansa Technik apron just south of RWY15/33; that is pretty close to the runway (if wind conditions don't require the use of the other runway 05/23) and you'll have the sun in the back almost all day long.

Nope, it's been held already in '99, '01 and '03 but under a different name.

Again, according to the official site they strongly recommend you come with public transport as there are only limited and chargeable parking slots.
Shuttle busses drive you from parking P8 to the show.

Have fun!

There was this tread: RE: Hamburg Spotting Info? (by EMA747 Aug 17 2007 in Aviation Photography)
(why do threads in this forum get archieved so quickly?) confused

So the cancelled Dutch Constellation has been replaced with the Super Constellation, cool.

Check phots in database under Hamburg Airport Classics, that was the previous name of the event. The display runway will be 05/23 and the operation runway will be 15/33.

I strongly recommend to arrive in friday for the "Fly-In", because most of the visitors are just static display. A380 is scheduled to arrive on satursay, though. Planning a low pass for the crowds prior landing. This will probably the only aircraft landing 15/33 for the show. It seems that the A380 is not allowed to land on the 3250 m runway  Yeah sure

Sorry for the plug:

It sure looks like a great show and that list is quite long!!  Smile

Tobi, you have any ideas of a good location to park the car and jump on public transport, I'll be coming from the north on A7.

Thanks again, and lets hold our thumbs for some sunny weather,

Johan

When are you arriving? Are you staying for 1 or 2 days? The best would be to park your car at your hotel or any underground station and then shuttle to the airport.

Cheers
