OK...here is my pic.

Big version: Width: 1200 Height: 800 File size: 958kb


Rejected for level (obviously)......since the screener didn't leave a note....I need to ask you guys here for help.

Originally...this picture was leveled against the vertical lines of the hangar behind the aircraft (since most hangars hang their siding vertically at presumably 90deg. to the ground).

There is no horizon to contradict my idea of level....so I would like some input on what would a screener use to judge this. If the screeners just go by "feel", then what is the point of actually finding vertical or horizontal lines to rotate your picture against?

After looking at the number of posts concerning level......I have a feeling that the screeners need some more objective tools to judge this aspect of our work....and not just a subjective glance.

I don't leave personal notes for very obvious rejections.

Your photo needs quite a bit of CW rotation to be level.

Here it is after being rotated .6 CW in Photoshop

thanks for the input....but what did you think was the Level line or object that you used? I'm trying to figure out the reasoning behind the rejection. If no particular line was used.....how did you decide 0.6 deg was just the right amount?

Fair enough, but expect the same in return.

I didn't know it was .6 until I opened it in Photoshop, but by looking at it the shot is very unlevel. My first guess was .5 when I opened it in PS but it needed even more than that.

I used the left side edge of the hangar and the right side of the hangar door. Knowing they are converging verticals I split the difference.

If you disagree with the rejection I would ask you to appeal, but quite honestly I think you have zero chance of this photo getting accepted. But perhaps others would give you a different opinion.

My goal is to get better at Leveling.....that is why I'm asking all these questions.....I have no special attachment to this particular aircraft, but I upload many pictures with the same backdrop...and don't want to waste time just to have my pics rejected.

The other thing to keep in mind is that a wide angle lens will cause "the leans," but as this looks like a crop done at 35mm (53mm effective on your Sony) it shouldn't have been an issue.

You are right...there shouldn't be a vertical lean at this focal length.

BTW...how come you can see the EXIF info when it gets stripped by A.net?
(wish it didn't get stripped).

Because the version you upload was not the shot I rejected (no A.net copyright bar) and the file upload system used to store pictures in your profile does not strip EXIF data.

If Exif data was available on accepted pictures...I would even include GPS data with mine  Smile

Everyone who reads this thread has access to it Mark, all I did was right click and do a save as so I could open it in Photoshop.
