I will be visting LAX for a few days in early November - staying at the Radisson. What is the latest situation re spotting / photography from lounge / roof areas.

Also planning to visit an Nuys & Hawthorne - any suggestions as to the best places to go.

Was there about 3 weeks ago and the lounge is still closed during the day. I went to the desk and asked about access to the lounge and explained all about spotting and the gentleman asked me to wait five minutes while he finished dealing with customers. He then escorted me to the 14th floor and opened the door to the banquet room which was nice but it is all behind tinted glass. I can only assume that the lounge is off limits to all but the general manager. I'd chat with her upon your check-in and set something up ahead of time as my belief is that special arrangements are needed to get the door unlocked for the lounge.

Course a phone call ahead of your visit would set you straight. I know a lot of cheaper places to stay at LAX as I just had the Courtyard for $52 a night on price line. If you can't get lounge access then I'd stay somewhere else.

I can second that......the roof top was nice, but the rooms in comparison to a Sheraton or Hilton weren't.

The Horrible Inn (sorry, Holiday Inn) a bit further out isn't too bad. Get a room on the north side at the top of the hotel... The rooms have floor to ceiling windows that slide open. You can shoot north side arrivals - sure the aircraft are higher so you don't get the south-west LA skyline in the background, but if you want to take approach typle photos from the comfort of a hotel room at least you don't have to do so through glass as you do at the other Sheratons/Hiltons/Marriotts on Century. For example:
