Yesterday I picked up a used Canon EOS Rebel X S at the Salvation Army for $10. It seems to work ok, but there was no instruction book. I know that many of you don't use film SLRs anymore, but I figured somebody would know how to use the feature on this camera. I have been using manual SLRs for years so I've got that stuff down. The thumb wheel on the left side is what I need clarification on.
A-Dep: ?
M: shutter speed
Av: F-stop
Tv: Shutter speed and ?
P: ?
L: off
green square:?
head: portrait
Mountain: landscape
flower: close up
runner: action
On the right side there are two buttons, one is a star the other says Av +/- what does that do.
There are mode, select, and set buttons on the back, what are they for?

Hi,
can't help you with everything here, but some things are the same with Canon's DSLRs.
A-Dep: auto depth of field
M: manual
Av: Aperture and the camera sets time automatically
Tv: Shutter speed and the camera sets aperture automatically
P: automatic with some possibilities for the user take change settings like manual exposure correction
L: ???
green square: fully automatic
head: portrait
Mountain: landscape
flower: macro
runner: sport mode
The Ac +/- button is for the manual exposure correction in the semi automatics (Tv, Av...).

And controls the aperature in Manual, atleast that's how it is on my 400D.
