I don't have any aspirations of getting shots uploaded here but I wanted to share some shots from my Veterans Day weekend trip to Las Vegas and the Aviation Nation airshow. I just got my DSLR and am still learning so any feedback is appreciated.

Some very nice photos here! It looks like you've got the general idea of motive down pat - you're shooting the right subjects. You'd need to crop them so that the aircraft are centered in the frame. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the quality as the pictures provided are quite small.
Thanks for sharing your photographs, and good luck with your future photography.

Let us make sure that we don't confuse the chap...
He'll need to crop them to the center of the frame for this web site - which doesn't follow proper photography technique.
If he plans to use photos of a moving object somewhere else - he has them (almost) cropped correctly. Open areas should be provided in front of moving objects to illustrate that they are moving. The open area gives the object somewhere to move to.

Yes, indeed. I'm so used to critiquing photos for A.net that it just slips out sometimes!
And I truly believe that the best aviation photos are the ones not accepted to A.net - the ones where photographers aren't afraid to experiment with motive.
Cheers!

Or he could just contact me the next time he is in Vegas and I'll loan him a good lens for the day and a ladder so that he can get over the fence and not have to shoot thru the fence. Shadows in corners always bugged me!!

I just might do that. I get to Vegas quite often. End of January is my next planned trip.
Was the fence that obvious? I thought I did an ok job getting through. Some of my other shots it was much more pronounced.
I do have to say that KLAS is about my favorite airport. Great spotting locations and plenty of action.

Then you will have to make sure to leave an afternoon open when you come out next. Light is good right now from 10 a.m. til around 4 p.m. It's getting cold here now with daytime highs around 63.
Can't tell by your pics it your shoot Nikon or Canon. Looks like Canon to me. I have several Nikkor lens but my spotting buddy has Canon lens.
You'll get addicted to spotting LAS!! The action is close and non-stop.

Quoting Mattbna (Reply 8): A quick look at the EXIF info of the photos provided above shows us that he is shooting a Pentax K10D (which I am not even remotely familiar with).
Yep, I shoot with a K10. Puts me at a disadvantage as far as lenses for the time being but I am absolutely love the camera otherwise. Pentax may not get the love in forums and places like a.net which is unfortunate because the product is very nice. I had a 35mm Pentax so it made sense to stay with the brand.

Hey Dave, quick question if you don't mind! What sort of lens do you require for decent shots at the usual LAS spotting locations? 100m, 200m, 400m? Thanks.

Your not going to need much. I rarely use my 400 unless it's departures. At the viewing area all I use is my 80-200 unless a heavy is coming on 25L and then you need less to fit it. They are so close you smell burning rubber.

I love it Dave, nothing better than getting to the viewing area at sunrise and having to have a turtleneck and sweatshirt on only to be in short sleeves by 11.

Brian:
Only thing I can suggest is buy a ladder and get the lens above the fence! You've got a good eye, just need to get rid of those fence corners.
