Photographer Banned To 2050

AIRLINERS.NET CREW
HEAD SCREENER

It was recently brought to our attention by the Headscreeners at Jetphotos.net that they suspected that a photographer was altering details on images uploaded to both JP and airliners.net and for this we thank them. This case was investigated by both screening teams and found to be correct. As a result the photographer in question has been banned for life and all of his images have been removed from both sites.

Two examples are shown below where the photographer even had the audacity to draw attention to the rare photograph with no titles, though, as now can be seen, the image has been altered. The other has been submitted to JP as a mirror image of ours and bearing a different registration. Many images have been submitted to both sites with false and altered registrations and I am sure that everyone will appreciate the serious nature of this image manipulation.

If you cannot view the images you will be able to see them as a part of my profile

Whilst in many ways our sites compete, this had a potential to affect the integrity of both of our databases and rapid firm action was taken by both sides. This is not the first occasion that there has been such a co-operation , but this is the most serious incident shared by us and this can be taken as the way any future unethical behaviour will be dealt with.

Links to the images are also here

Holy cow!
But great to see such a good cooperation between the two biggest rivals in the aviation photography world.
I have recently detected some stolen photos from both, airliners.net and jetphotos.net at planepictures.net, dropped the crew at pp.net a note and those images were removed within minutes, great job!  Wink

This is a spectacular case of course and I think this is also a sign to everybody who does such manipulation, in the end it isn't worth it, you are just cheating on yourself!

But I'm not sure whether the anonymity of the internet will give this guy a second chance, a new email-address, a new nickname and uploading under another name... The punishment is appropriate but if it really stops this guy from uploading... I'm not sure....

Anyway, good job!

The punishment is - I assume - according to the rules of the sites, whether it is appropriate or not is for them to decide...and I trust both sites to have investigated this very thoroughly...anyhow, lifetime is long, very long ... and I will cetainly not be around anymore by 2050, at least not shooting pictures and uploading, unless Canon invents a super- IS system by that time  Smile

I thought that there were specific sites for manipulated pictures, I cannot understand why the "photographer" was uploading here...

Walter

It's not only manipulation of the look of the plane, also completely fake registrations were 'invented'. You'd expect this (and other) website to have a factual database, but this kind of behaviour messes all that up. Fact and fiction mixed up...

It's unfortunate but the actions were severe enough to warrant the punishment. Adios muchacho. Nice job guys.

What I don't understand how can one be so stupid to upload two complete different versions of one picture to both sites? I mean there are probably plenty of people visiting both sites... It was sure that this would be detected soon or later..
 confused

But good to know that things like that get sorted out!

Florian, without a notice from someone else, we wouldn't even have known. So, it's always helpful to know, that other photogs care for a site's integrity. Of course, he will most probably try to come back. It will be again up to us photographers to inform the cheated websites.

In the same way, a cooperation between competing sites, as shown here and on other occasions, is helpful as well.

Personally, I feel kinda cheated by this piece of #@°§@¦#§@, even more, seeing the first two photos (Germanwings).

But alas, Mick shows to be far tougher than me. You wrote, that the photog has been "banned for life", over there, I only proposed to ban him for 150 years Big grin

Well done!
Gerardo

Hi Mick, I know that it is for the sake of showing the examples, but I would not be willing to have such fake pictures in my profile...The picture of the "dendrobatid" is however a very nice one, and not a fake!

That is why we all waited until the images had gone from both sites before we raised this thread, so as not to name him or make it easy for them to be identified. You know his name, we know his name but in open forum it is only their actions not their name that is important.

Is the culprit a teenager? Reason why I ask is this seems like a rather immature thing to do and in context, I would be surprised if it was someone who was slightly older. (And before I get shot down in flames, some teenagers often demonstrate maturity beyond their years!)

Hard to understand this kind of puerile behaviour. I applaud both sites for having the maturity to address the issue in a spirit of cooperation and to take appropriate action - and it was appropriate..

As a teenager, I agree wholeheartedly with your statement about how some teenagers demonstrate maturity beyond their years, however, I do find your statement to be a bit degrading. Coincidentally, I don't think it was a teenager. Any (normal) teen should not have the time nor desire to manipulate photographs in such a professional manner as shown above. It looks to me like this was done by a professional, not some kid. In my eyes, a professional has much more to gain out of it than a teenager.

Mick..

Be careful.

Although he has broken the site(s) rules, he still retains full copyright over his own
'original' photographs.

Maybe the examples you are showing should be trashed.

I do not think we need to see the name of him/her. They are already shamed to those who know this person and the community in general. As a result let it go and let this be a lesson. I do not think it is fair in particular for those of us who bust our asses to get acceptance. Frankly, it is nice to get an acceptance or a high hitter which I never gained here but I do have one 10K plus shot on JP. If not that is okay. I enjoy it for the experince. Whether a shot gets on or not I spot for the experince and the firends./ Not the popularity.

I don't think he is...some how I think he's someone who values the hits more than anything else, I can tell you this much, he seems to be from the Mediterranean region.
