Hi Henk,
it looks still oversharpened to me. Check for example 45+19. I still see halos, for example around the wing. Try to sharpen the picture on a second layer and erase the halos.

Ok then it is just plain a bad picture since I only sharpened it with amount 50 @ radius 0.5 wich is according to other people here not a lot...
I did not do anythings else to it this time.

Hi Henk,
Quoting TweetDriver (Reply 4): I only sharpened it with amount 50 @ radius 0.5
That might explain a lot. Radius 0.5 is actually on the 'aggressive' side - I personally have experimented quite a lot with this, and now I'm using a radius of 0.2 as it gives a much smoother look. Anything above 0.3 tends to increase the perceived grain, and in case of very small detail in a picture it almost always gives an oversharpened look.
Btw, the first one (Tornados) is also oversaturated, and the second one (if it wasn't that blurry) I would crop much closer around the aircraft.

@Acontador: did you see the revised image?
In workshops especially designed for aircraft photography people were talking about USM with a much higher factor and radius.

You must remeber this is a.net and the images have to meet their rules, not a printers rules or another group so if you want your shots accepted on a.net meet their rules.

Hi Henk,
Your Tornado pic was taken at around midday, with a high sun => bad light, so it will come out very contrasty. As it looks right now, your second edit looks still oversharpened, too high contrast and oversaturated. It's not a bad picture at all, but it's a difficult one to edit.
Quoting TweetDriver (Reply 6): In workshops especially designed for aircraft photography people were talking about USM with a much higher factor and radius.
Not necessary to start an argument, but I didn't say anything about the quantity (=factor) of USM to apply, only about the quality (=radius). The factor of USM will always depend on each picture, but I can tell you that on my pictures (and I usually pick out the sharpest one out of a very sharp lens like the 70-200L) I use one pass of 500% and 0.2, and then maybe if really necessary a second one of 100% and 0.2.
In your case, since the picture is already very contrasty, and it shows a lot of small details, it will probably stand much less sharpening.
Hope it helps and we can see more of your Luftwaffe pictures!

Well, my intention was not to start an argument.
And I am trying to put some more pictures online, but they obviously all do not meet the standards.
And thank you Lid for lecturing me about where we are.
