Interesting how Canon "consumer" DSLR are generally at least a sensor & feature step ahead of their "prosumer"models.

$799 in USA & EU749 Canon really screwing the European users I wonder how much they will shaft the Australian ones.

Cheers

No more CF cards, at last.

I really like the live histogram, that's useful. Would be nice to know if it has separate live histograms for each colour or only total.

Not sure that is my favourite part.
While it is unlikely I will be buying a 450D, I am assuming this "feature" will carry over to the "50D", "6D" etc, which will mean dual storage media at least while I still have multiple cameras.

Having said that I guess it was inevitable.

Cheers

I think this is the first camera that's really made for the people coming from the P&S's. The Nikon D40 is like that, and the previous Rebels are IMO not close to as "P&S-user" friendly.

I'm actually kinda disappointed too. Sure, these days, memory cards are cheap. But I'd rather not have to replace the 4x 2G CF I used with my XTi. Maybe, I'll get a second XTi instead, when the price drops...

Not really, that's just the Canon price.
Street price is probably 50 to 100 EU less.

Nice to see they redesigned the grip a bit, added in a spot meter, bigger viewfinder (but it's still a mirror and not a prism)... basically fixed a lot of the minor complaints.

I find it interesting that the specs take it significantly past the 40D. Sure the 40D has some obvious benefits but I suspect on price alone, the 450D and 40D will be somewhat less mutually exclusive than the 400D and 30D were.

I am still holding my breath for the 7D / 5DmkII / 3D / whatever they're calling it these days. Rumours are that they won't release it at PMA this year but I hope they do because I need the new camera!

That's ok... there isn't that much difference and you probably got a good price so you can go spend more on lenses!  Smile

Guess it'll come at Photokina, amongst a new 1D-series body and probably a Nikon D3X with 24 megapixels.  Silly

I thought CF cards are better? Is there any advantages of one over the other? (besides the size)

That rubberized grip will help out a lot. It looks like the same size though. (which is too small)

I guess my 350D is good enough for now. I will buy some L glass instead!  Smile

I am thinking in the same direction as you. Talking about lenses, what is the next "Next Generation" lense and when will it be released? What can we expect to enter the market after the Canon L lenses? I read last week Canon will reduce the lifecycle of their EOS cameras from 18 months to 12 months. This would mean the 500D will come out on February 2009. Has Canon said anything on the plans for lenses? How long are the L lenses expected to remain on the market before something new comes out?

Given that the 70-200 f2.8L was introduced in 1995 and is still sold now, quite a while!

Well if the rumours are to be believed then there is going to be a 40d replacement in a couple of months.... From what a lot of people seem to think the 40d has had such poor sales compared to the D300 that they are furiously working on updating it to compete better. The 5D mkii that was suposed to materialise is in a class of it's own and while old has no direct competition.

Not sure if it's true thought, we shall wait and see.

TBH the 450d doens't really look that much of an upgrade to the 400d though.

nothing to celebrate really. cool release, just nothing worth drooling over. I would have liked to see the 12.2mp in the 40D. But 3.5fps...you're kidding me...that's a total joke on improvement.

Yeah it did but a lot of people are saying that Canon were taken by surprise when Nikon brought out the D300 that they are seriously thinking of replacing it soon. It's rumours though so i'm not takin much notice of it. Just passing on what i've read.

The 40D is a great camera but tbh the Nikon D300 can beat it pretty much in every respect.

If anyone is replacing their cf-card camera with an SD-card type and you have extra CF cards laying around I might be interested in buying one, or two....depending on price and how far it has to ship. I'm going to need more Cf cards soon..
