Does This Crop Work?

So, in good faith I'm uploading photos again. I have a full que and eagerly await my screening results but I have a question about one shot in particular...

Now, for me, this crop just simply works. Unfortunately when I include the vertical stabilizer the crop just doesn't jive with me. Isn't the lighting on that shot just stunning? I was blown away this morning when I took it just after sunrise. I really would like this photo to be uploaded into the database! So, how does she look? Fire away!

The first one doesn't work for me. I would either crop tighter, center the engines and cut the vertical stab like you did, or use the second image. More balance for me that way.

IMHO, cutting off the tail when you have "dead space" below the nose wheel, seems "wrong".

If you do want to centre the fuselage vertically, I would, as suggested by Fly747, crop much tighter on the engines (especially on the left-hand side of the photo). This will have the benefit of also reducing the vertical space available for the shot.

The socond crop works fine for me personally  wink

Hi Chris,

Personally I'm not a fan of chopping-off tails, unless you want to achieve something very specific and there's no other choice. In your case, I would go for a crop like Steve is suggesting, centering the fuselage horizontally and cropping wings and stabs, but leaving the tail fully visible, something like your first (still visible) pic but cropped tighter on the left side.
Please note that this is my personal preference only, and if you choose otherwise it doesn't mean it will be automatically rejected.

That being said, leveling photos here in Atlanta can sometimes be difficult since the field is so random in terms of horizons and false horizons. In terms of leveling, how does she look?

Hi Chris,

Looks much better for my taste, 4:3 ratio usually works well with this kind of crops. Level seems also fine to me, only issue I see is a slight softness, which gets more pronounced towards the rear of the fuselage.
