Easy, i have a printed note which i fill in the flight number and date and ask the captain if i can photograph the cockpit on landing and if its ok if i can take a few pictures of the cabin inflight.
Once he reads it, he will call the purser or any other F/A and tell them that its OK to take pics in the cabin in flight and/or of the flight deck once landed. So that ways the F/A's dont really need to use their limited discretion to allow you or forbid you to take pics in flight since the Captain has given his consent.
I have noticed if you just ask the F/A's there is a 50/50 chance of them letting you take pics or not allowing you. But with the Captains consent, they dont really say much.
Always remember, the best person to ask is the g uy in total command, aka. the Captain, these guys are very cool who like people admiring the plane they are commanding!
