Hello  Smile !

As some of you already know by now I do alot of spotting and photo taking at Port Elizabeth (FAPE/PLZ) airport. Anyone else been spotting at this airport before? It isn't such a good airport for taking photos as they are a limited amount of places accessible, or either you get told you can't spot there or the area is close to the location (township) which makes it unsafe and is very hard to access. Here's some of the places I have tryed out:

Yellow X : Would be an excellent place as it is at a higher level than the runway and is also very close to the runway, only problem is that it's very rare you see aircraft landing on this runway (17/35).

Red X : Good place to spot landing aircraft, is close to the runway and you get to see the aircraft touch down, only problem is you need an off road motorbike to get there and it is quite close to the location (township).

Green X : You get close to the aircraft taxing past here, only problem is when the gates closed you have to try take pictures through the fence.

Blue X : Good place to catch aircraft taxing past and would be a good place to take shots of landing aircraft with a good lens. Also the Imperial Air Cargo 727F park right next to the fence here, the only problem is sometimes I get told I can't go here even though it doesn't say I can't and it is an open stretch of grass.

Black X (top) : With a better lens (zoom) this would be my favourite place shooting aircraft on final on runway 26. Only problem is it's right next to the road and everyone can see you when they drive past.

So there you go, my main spotting places at PLZ. Anyone know of any others that I might not have been to, or is there anyone that flys into PLZ (Pilot) or works there ?

With all due respect, you've started seven threads in the past three days. Half of your queries could've been answered in one thread.

If you're looking for some advice on where to spot/take pictures around PLZ, email some photographers that have taken pictures there in the past, that's your best passport to help. Jump on your bike and take a look around, or alternatively do a simple Google search.

Save up and get yourself a good lens, something like a 55-200 sounds good for you. You'll have alot more flexibility with an extra lens besides the kit lens.

I only found out a few days ago that I could write in this forum even without a payed for membership. I'v asked all the questions I want for now and might not put up any more posts for quite a while. Well until I actually get proper membership.

I have done that in the past, some didn't reply and most people were just passing threw when they took the photos. And it's not my bike, it's my friends (i go on the back) and he doesn't like taking although he wasn't to be a Pilot also he doesn't have the passion that I have. I have also tryed google. The only good things about PLZ are on wikipedia and I wrote most of them anyway.

I only have just over 100 pounds to spend and lens in South Africa are about double the price as England. So I will hopefully get a new one when I go back at Christmas inless you want to pay the shipping fees
 Wink, haha !

Very true, thanks Andz !

I just wanted to write some things about PLZ airport as I'v searched on other forums and found nothing about it. Also tell people the best places for spotting if they ever visit Port Elizabeth and want to do some spotting.

Sorry if I made you mad TupolevTu154 for writing a few to many posts, but in future you don't have to read my posts !

My post was by no means intended to be a malicious remark. I was merely advising that alot of Daniel's questions could've been answered in fewer threads.

You've not made me mad at all. My earlier post was simply misunderstood.

Alot of people (including myself) started out with the Tamron 55-200, which I bought for £90 here in the UK. It may be more expensive out there in SA, but it's worth saving for. A very good lens for the money.

In the meantime, feel free to send me that Kulula 737 engine shot and I'll be happy to do a quick edit for you  Smile, tis one I'd like to see on the net.

What's the optical zoom on this lens ? The current one I have is 3x isn't it ? (18-55mm).
