As the thread title states, I would like the management to consider granting members with a photographer account posting access to the site related forum.
I would assume that both membership and moderators / site management would agree that we recently had some rather productive discussions about further site development here in the photography forum.
Other discussions about the site are led in the site related forum. But members with a photographer account cannot post there. Thus, they either have to start discussions here in the photography forum, or they are forced to stay out of these vital discussions.
As Paulo himself repeatedly mentioned how important photographers are to the site, I guess they should be given a chance to participate in the site related forum. In my humble opinion, the site would profit from such a step.

Quoting Cathay111 (Reply 1): I've said it a hundred times and it keeps falling on deaf ears, how can photographers report faults if they can't access site related?

Quoting JeffM (Reply 2): easy, buy a membership like everyone else?
Why should I have to pay money if I want to help improving this site?
I can understand your argument for all other subforums, but site related should be open for all contributing members (open = posting access). As I said, I feel this would be for the site's benefit.

I see it differently. Let's think of it as helping DM, they provide me with a home for my work and they in return receive revenue from the advertising around my work. So if there was a problem with me giving them more space in which to advertise (ie: add more photos) wouldn't it be fair to assume we should report this as soon as possible?
Win/win really, Demand Media are notified of an issue which they resolve. Photographer keeps uploading. Advertising space continues to increase.
Customers (us) are happy.
Advertisers are happy.
Demand Media are happy.

I, too, spend too much time in the forums and keep forgetting that there's always e-mail.

It still baffles me that we spend tons of money on equipment, we take photos that meet the amazing standards of airliners.net, we upload them, we generate millions of hits for this site...
...and then we have to pay for the privelage of posting on the forum.

Kinda screwed up IMHO, but that's just me.
That's just it....you don't HAVE to post here. It's called a "CHOICE". There is no entitlement to posting anywhere.

In general, I think it is good that the forums are not for free. Of course, we could discuss if all forums should be free for contributing photographers, but that was not my intention.
I just think that photographers should have a voice in discussions about the site, and that such discussions should be held in the site related forum, not in the photography forum.
Quoting NIKV69 (Reply 7): It's 25 bucks. Join as a premium I mean if you can plop down 1500 bucks for a camera this is not a big deal.
It is not that I cannot afford it. But if the site management says that photographers should have a say in discussions about the site, then they should not make them pay for joining the discussions.
All other forums - okay. Would be nice to have free access, but I can live without it as well. If I feel the need to participate in civ-av or non-av, I will gladly pay the $25.
Edit: Jeff, did not see your latest when I posted:

Once again, I can live with it. But I would think it to be a win / win situation if photographers would have access to site related. This is not about giving them freebies. It's about keeping discussions about the site where they belong, without locking out the photographers.
One benefit would be that the aviation photography would be about photography again, not a second site related forum for photographers.

That's just it...they aren't locked out. Members of the site (those that purchase memberships are members...) can feel free to post where ever they please.

That is a failure of the moderators, not the posters.

That is your opinion, others obviously differ. I do agree, discussions like this don't belong in the photography forum. Your "Voice" can be as loud as your checkbook. Membership here is not different then anywhere else. You get what you pay for.

So, according to your logic, photographers who upload their work here, but do not purchase a forum account, are not members of the site.
Well, that's your opinion, and I will not question it. I am only thinking that, according to recent statements, the site management may see that differently.
Quoting JeffM (Reply 11): Your "Voice" can be as loud as your checkbook.
It's not that I would feel something missing in my life if I had no chance to voice my opinion on the site. I just say that, if the management would like contributing photographers to participate in discussions about the site, they should consider giving them access to the site related forum. It was an idea, and I think both sides would benefit from it.
In all your statements, I actually missed your argument against it. "Go pay for it" is not an argument.

In the true sense of the word, yes. Contributor would be more appropriate.

It absolutely is. If you want something, then pay for it.

That is a fair statement. There are many many photographers that DO pay for membership.

And that is why as CONTRIBUTORS (as opposed to MEMBERS), one could argue that photographers should have access to SITE RELATED, and site related ONLY... not even to the photography forum, as that is a membership privilege.
Now how many of those who have enjoyed the photography forum thus far for free would trade their photography forum access in for access to site related?

+1 vote here for that. But then I didn't enjoy it for free - I paid - I was a first class member until I scrapped my account with months still to go (and still paid up).
What should happen is that premium members should get access to photography forum, and site related. Photographers should get site related only.
First Class members are the only ones who should get access to everything.

Of course the contributing photographers should have posting access to Site-Related.
Goes without saying.
They provide the site with photos, and should be able to inform/read/update on issues relating to the sites operations. (Site -related)
This is a no brainer. Open up Site related for photographers.

works for me. I don't think photographers should have any special access just for uploading a photo.
