A friend of mine has just bought a 450D, and yesterday I got to play with it a little. In the Live View mode, couldn't get the auto focus to function. Didn't have a lot of time to figure things out properly. My question to those who own one - was it just me, or is the AF really not supposed to work with the Live View?

Yes it does autofocus. From what I've seen (I have a 40D, and it works a little differently) you can use the AF / AE Lock button to autofocus. On the 40D, you hit the AF-On button to do the same.
