Hi all. I'm embarking upon a bit of a mission, going through my old prints from way back when.... The scanner I have now, although it does the trick, needs to be replaced as I'm pretty sure I could get better results with a modern one. (The one I have now is touching 6 years). I'll be using it entirely for scanning prints, not slides. Suggestions please.
Spencer.

Hi Spencer,

I use the EPSON Perfection V500 Photo and I am quite pleased with it. It is easy to use, it can scan negatives as well.

I use the Canon Canoscan 4400F and I must say I'm more than happy with it. It is a direct competitor to the scanner mentioned above by WILCO737 and is similarly priced.

Thanks guys. I'd like an honest opinion though here... Below is one of my scans. Quality wise, is it worth getting a newer scanner or is this up to scratch? ie. Will I ever get better than this?

How much post processing is involved in these images, or are these the results after a scan??

Spencer,

Using scanners below £300-400 that is about the best you'll get - no need to upgrade in my opinion. Very nice shot by the way!

Both my examples and Spencer's too have been through processing - raw out of the scanner they actually look pretty awful! Processing for scans is a lot more demanding and takes a lot longer but worth it if you can dig out some golden oldies!

One thing I forgot to mention - all my example scans were scanned from prints and not neg's. Neg's will produce slightly better images.
