Sad news to report. I am convinced that this spot at the economy garage is now gone. The 2nd economy garage is now open, and they have now restricted access to the surface lot. No more close encounters with the aircraft.

I've noticed this from about mid-November. I thought they might open it for increased traffic during the holidays, but apparently not. Hell, they still have extra parking out near the entrance near Boy Scout Bvld. Since it is not open during the holidays, I doubt that it will ever be open again. I hope it does though.  crossfingers  How ironic that the Red Lot at MCO is now available. I've been trying to figure which location was closer to the taxing aircraft.  Confused

The top floor of the economy garage is a good enough replacement though, so it's not ALL bad.

Meanwhile to the south, the other week I discovered that SRQ has lost a nice spot. It's at the corner of Old Bradenton Rd and Air Cargo Ave. The road and fence are still there. The taxiway and runway are still there. But now there is a building between them. I have no ground shots from there, but here's an aerial from Idle

I suppose one could still manuever a landing shot, but ground shots of taxing aircraft are now impossible. The airport still has 4 other spotting areas.

Care to share where the SRQ spots are. I'm in the area for the next few weeks, and I've just got a new camera. I've taken many approach shots already today. Thanks

There are 2 within the tterminal. One, the doorway upstairs is ajacent to security. I hear it's only on weekdays. The other is on the east side of the terminal. It is shaded w/ a bench.

The is an area where you can park your car near the satart of runway 32.
Leaving the airport entrance, turn east(left), go past the dog track, turn left at 7-11, after passing railroad tracks the road curves and you will notice a parking area.

On the northwest side of the field, if you are heading north on US 41, you'll pass McDonalds, your last light is Braden Ave. You'll pass a Japanese steakhouse, then make a right turn on the street between a welding place and a boat shop. Just go down to the end of the road near the fence.

Roger that. I've been to all four of them in that case. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss an obvious location. I'm spending the holidays with the family, and they've got a house about 3/4 of a mile off the end of 14/32, to the southeast. Its quite nice, as its almost right on the centerline.

Thanks for the info,

This view is about to be obstructed, probably in the next day or so.

I think that is the best place on the field to shoot, day in day out. I got my first A.net shot accepted from there, so here comes the shameless plug.
