Hi all,

Following up on the thread I started a few weeks ago. Canon Rumors is reporting here:

that they got an e-mail from a guy who's allegedly been testing the Canon 100-400 L mk II. The main points (nothing really unexpected I have to say!):

- traditional zoom ring (no push/pull mechanism)
- slightly faster on the wide end (f4 instead of f4.5)
- latest IS (4-stops)
- weather sealing
- (most importantly) very sharp

Announcement is supposed to be coming in Feb 2009. Of course, take it with a grain of salt.  Smile

Interesting. The F4 would be a great feature, but personally I find the "push-pull" mechanism to a strong attribute to the lense, especially if you're shooting sports.

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the outcome of a hundred battles.

Rumor is most likely BS... Tomorow it will be 1DMK4, and in one week it will be the 400 5.6L IS.

Though if it were true i'd buy it in a heartbeat. You hardly need another lens in aviation if your copy is sharp.

Offcourse there is always the 300 2.8, and 500 F/4 on a nice 1.3 crop body (or 1.6), but thats out of price range for a lot of us.

Maybe, maybe not. It's consistent with what I've been hearing on the 100-400 L replacement (the only new item was really the Feb 2009 date). The specs look quite reasonable to me too (and consistent to what Canon has done recently when replacing other lenses). But we'll really know in a month or two.  Smile

400 5.6L IS.

That'd be awesome.
