GENERAL MANAGER

Hi All

– Contact photo captcha fixed and working
– Reuploads fixed and working
– BBE related videos button removed from photo pages
– News Now (center bottom) now updates
– Photo comments screening and log pages fixed
(manually fixed yesterday and pushed to all servers today)

- TEMPORARY PATCH into the screening page to exclude photos with the watermark setting. This is based on the setting and not whether the watermark photo exists or not. This means ALL photos set with the watermark are excluded from screening regardless of existence of the watermarked photo or not.

Best Regards
Paulo

so photos that have been uploaded with the watermark option selected will not be screened?

do I need to re-upload my photos without the watermark option selected?

Yeah, so should we re-upload our photos? Does this mean that they will never be screened, or does this mean that they will not be screened temporarily?

There is a problem with watermarked photos not being added to the database. To eliminate this we have temporarily discontinued screening images with watermarks. You can either wait until the issue is fixed, or you can delete the photos you have in the queue and reupload them without a watermark. Once the issue is fixed screening the currently uploaded waterrmarked pictures will be a priority.

So I take it this is why my two photos have been stuck in "currently in screening" for the past 2.5 days?

I always upload photos with the watermark. Does this mean that all my photos in the queue will be excluded from screening? How long will it take to get this issue resolved? I know that you will not be able to give me the EXACT time, but will it take hours, days, weeks??  Confused

Also, on a sidenote, I am curious to know why are we facing such massive and frequent disruptions. I understand that you guys are tweaking stuff at the server and back-end, but is it really needed? Frankly, we were better off six months ago, when atleast one could get their photos screened and accepted/rejected with excellent accuracy. I am not saying that you guys don't know what you're doing, but from an end-user's perspective, the problems on this site have only increased ever since the tinkering began. Sad

Waiting for inputs from those in the know!

- Vivek

Atleast we now know why some of our photos are being kept back from screening and accepted/Rejected.
Does this mean the ones with watermarks that show up as being In screening have been screened and are waiting to be added to database once the bug is fixed or could i wait few more days with them being in screening and than get a rejection?

Is it possible for ones who have had photos in screening with watermarks for few days to upload them again without any watermarks and get them priortised in the screening que?

Its good that screening process is back on again with screeners accepting around 500+ shots in 12hours but still inconvenience to those uploaded shots with watermarks.

Mark.

If it is true that the photos stuck in "currently in screening" for the past few days are acceptances that are waiting to be added to the database, it would be nice if we decided to reupload without watermarks, to have the images added with priority. I wouldn't think they need to be screened again if they are considered accepted but on hold.

It is not that straightforward and whilst many are ready to be added, that is not the case for them all and some may yet be rejected. Once the problem was discovered we started to simply add a comment that they could not be added due to being watermarked so they should not be screened again. However some had only had one screen when we stopped looking. I guess one way of looking at it is that if they have been shown as in screening for a good few days it is far more likely that they will be added.
There is no answer yet about whether the ones that have been accepted yet 'lost' can be recovered but I expect that we will be updated here on that issue.

So...I can now view the full size photo of one of my watermarked photos stuck in the queue. Since the time of upload I was not able to view my photos in the queue. They only showed that default image. Now I can view them. Is this an indication that things are getting resolved with the stuck watermarked photos?

Would say these are the watermarked pics....good for the one's without watermark which seem to be accepted/rejected faster.

You are right, there was a problem with watermarked images getting added but the work on that has, of course, been thrown into turmoil.
To help us, you may wish to consider pulling them from the queue and either uploading them again without a watermark or waiting until the problem has been resolved. Watermarks can in fact be added at a later date using the re-upload function
Due to the volume of them we will not be able to offer a priority screening simply because they have been waiting.

It seems that Paulo was the driving force behind all the programmer's work done on the site. I can only imagine that a replacement for him will not be easy to find - with similar qualifications plus the passion for airplanes and aviation photography.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of A.nets general manager, who obviously was a great inspiration and motivator on the site.

I just removed my uploads from the queue (which carried water marks) to aid the process.

Nevertheless it would perhaps be worth the effort to shut down the upload process until all problems have been fixed. Then give note and the photographers can flood the screeners.

Best regards
Christian Hauser
