I'm looking for someone who has experience with the Minolta DiMAGE-7 Digital Camera. How is it compared to the Sony F-707? The Minolta obviously has 7x zoom, and the F-707 5x..... which camera would you recommend me to buy?

My dad got one like a month ago and he thinks it is great. He let me use it one time and I thought it was really good. When he printed out the pictures from it, they were very good quality. It is very much like a 35mm. I would recommend the Dimage 7 over the Sony. Very clear pics!!

I use the DiMAGE 7 exclusively. The zoom is equivalent to 200 mm at its maximum. If you can get by with that I would strongly recommend it.
I would also strongly recommend getting the 256 meg memory card and also 2 sets of rechargeable batteries.
My local camera shop introduced me to Powerex rechargeable batteries and they are pretty good.
The photos it takes usually only need a little bit of sharpening in photoshop. Every once in awhile you'll get a blurry shot because of the autofocus, which sometimes tries to hunt through the whole focus range when lighting conditions aren't optimal. Other than that, its a great camera.

I have a Canon Pro90 and before buying it I did briefly consider the Dimage 7. Although I do like the 7's much better resolution and also its lower price, the main problem I had was that even though 7x zoom seems a lot, it is actually only equivalent to a 200m zoom, which can sometimes be a bit of a problem for aviation photography.

If you want more than 7x zoom, the Dimage 5 is a better option. It has a 3.3MP CCD (like the Pro90IS) which increases the range to 250mm using the same optics as the Dimage 7.
Other than the CCD, they are (essentially) the same camera.
