Hey there. Next Monday I might be in LA early morning inbound from HNL. I'll be there until 1145 when the LAS flight leaves. Where are the good spots in the morning this time of year? I've only been to LAX in the afternoon before.

Well there are the famous Imperial Hill and Proud Bird parking lot. Good places to start.

Are they good in the morning though?

Anyways, loads all of a sudden looked bad for LAX, so I'm just going to LAS instead.

We're getting a lot of gloom in the morning right now. Low, overcast clouds. Softer light, but bad as a background & a bit hazy/smoggy.

I was on Imperial Hill in the morning and it was January, so the sun was pretty low.

You see you have a nice view towards the airport, but the background is in deed a bit hazey, but the view is great and the sun mostly from behind you, so perfekt in my opinion.

Is Proud Bird (South Side) or Car Park Lot C (North Side) better????

Not sure as I am not an LA local!

The car park would be good location wise. If nothing else it's on my way to In N Out  Smile

Parking lot C will most likely get you hassle from the airport police. They like to ticket cars parked in there and have on multiple times provided a slew of questions to those who may have a camera with them as they are returning to their vehicles from a trip. The a/c are so close and on top of you though that anything longer than a wide angle or even a fisheye is too long.

Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.

Parking lot B is also good in the a.m., overall a much better spot than the Proudbird. The Proudbird always has that nagging tree in the way(I see it in a lot of shots from there), the B lot row D6 is excellent and unobstructed, 2 hours free also.

I recommend the Inn-n-out lot. Yeah the sun will be a little rough but the spot itself is superb.
Plus you can walk along the sidewalk a little more to get to the other side of the approach lights so you can get shots of planes in the sun rather than in the shade as what the park will do if you go there.
Lately the QF superjumbo has been coming in on 24s alot so It must be incredible to have this thing low and over you and your little wideangle lens as it approaches the runway.
I unfortunately dont have any samples as I missed it this past Sunday. I went to the 25's and it came in on 24s.
There is also a nice rental car place where they have Bentley's and Gallardoss parked right under the approach light so if you play around with the scene, some mad shots can be pulled off!

Chance favors the prepared mind.

The lot I shot in was for 24 arrivals I thought as Proud bird is for 25.

Both are good in the morning.

That spot is only good in the summer when the days are at their longest and the sun has a chance to cross the field. Otherwise you are shooting right into the sun.
