Hello,

I've been searching through my photos of the recent Red Bull Air Race in San Diego for any more possible additions to the database. When shooting the race, I wasn't concerned with typical airliners.net rules regarding composition. The shots would have been so boring! So I focused more on keeping the aircraft at a distance in the frame in an effort to include some scenery...kinda show some perspective and sense of flying through a course in front of a crowd and downtown San Diego.

I have a few examples taken over the course of 3 days that I'd like some opinions on. Now I realize you can't judge quality or anything on these small examples, but I am seeking opinions on the composition only and whether or not they are for this site. Also, I know there is a double issue with some of them, so obviously I would be choosing the one that works best..

Now this following shot is probably a real stretch as it's poorly lit, but I like the atmosphere...

So, would any of these be worth fixing up properly and submitting? I imagine the relaxed "creative" rules might offer a chance.

Thanks!

Very nice shots, all of them. My vote goes to 1, 2, 6, and 8 as having the best chance for a.net. The others are a little too distant or don't offer a compelling enough motive.

Yeah, that's definitely the best one for me. For a.net, there might be too much empty space between the subjects, but I think it's worth a shot. If that got in, it'd make the front page for sure.

This one's great, in my opinion. It is composed to show the smoke trails. If people shooting high altitude contrails can have an off center / distant aircraft to show the contrails, or wake vortices, you should be able to do this with your smoke show!

Hey guys, thanks for your input. Sorry, I have had a lot going on in the past couple of weeks so I haven't had a chance to follow up. I will post a couple of DB-ready edits soon to get some input.

In the mean time, since I guess we are to keep our prescreening to one thread at a time, here is a window view I have my doubts about. There was a recent discussion about this very thing but I think it's now archived. This is an unedited original, just resized and saved as jpeg. It's a nice overview of San Diego including the airport, etc. I took a sequence of shots but I personally find this one most interesting because of the window frame. However it was impossible to get the entire frame in the shot while tring to get a good angle on the scenery below. I'm guessing this goes against the include the entire frame, or none at all rule. Is there no way to make this one work? Thanks.

I doubt it.

Give it a shot. I think they have a very good chance. Don't get down about the comments here, as some comments are just to steer you away. . {No offense to any one here}
