The editors have been working hard again, so we can present some more info. Following Nr.1 rather quickly (that will not always be the case!), this second edition of Editor News has the following items that have been fully overhauled and standardized:
AirCal is an American company that originated in 1981 by renaming Air California. In 1986 the company was acquired by American Airlines and in July 1987 was officially merged.
The late AirNikon, who worked for the company, has the largest number of AirCal photos in the database (although Frank C. Duarte Jr. is coming quite close). As a tribute to him you see above left the 432nd photo uploaded to Anet.
Apart from their own aircraft, we have also found pictures in the database of aircraft leased from Aer Lingus, Aloha Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Wien Airlines. And there is one after-merger picture with dual AirCal/American Airlines titles.
AirCal used fleetnumbers but most of them are the same as the registration and then we don’t list them. However, when an AirCal registration is outside a standard batch, a fleetnumber different from the reg can have been assigned. In those cases we do list them. So please check the numbers carefully. An example can be seen on the photo below where N754UA has fleetnumber 454.
Brazilian company Rio-Sul was formed in 1976 by Varig. In 2002 the company was commercially integrated with Varig, but was not merged and kept its own AOC (Air Operators Certificate). But when Varig collapsed in 2006, Rio-Sul stopped too.
From 1998 aircraft started to receive a new c/s with additional Varig titles, and from 2002 aircraft could be seen with main Varig titles and small Rio-Sul ones. From 2004 there were also a few aircraft that had lost the Rio-Sul titles and only had the Varig ones. But at the end in 2006 there were also still aircraft flying in the old Rio-Sul c/s.
Apart from the aircraft above there is also a picture of an aircraft leased from Aer Lingus in the database and there are a few Untitled ones. When you select Rio-Sul at the frontal page search menu under the green bar, and then click on the “view unique entries” at the bottom of the results page, you can nicely select any of those titles above to see the photos for them. By the way, our oldest Rio-Sul photo (from 1977) is a Sabreliner! By using the aircraft types in the “view unique entries” you can quickly find that photo.
Special c/s had PR-SAA (“Tape Measure”), PR-SAF and PR-SAG (both with “Varig, Varig, Varig”), PT-SLW and PT-SSN (both with “Renault Scénic”), PT-SSK and PT-SSP (both with “Telesp Celular Empresas”), PT-SSM (“Renault Clio”) and PT-SSO (“Renault Formula”). When you select again Rio-Sul under the green bar and at the same time select “Colorful Paint Schemes” in the category window, you will get all those special scheme photos together. Next click on the “view unique entries” and you can select any registration (will come in the near future) or cn to view each aircraft individually. Isn’t that cool?
A third company we looked into is King Air Services from South Africa. It was not much work as there is only one photo in the database! It is a Cessna 208 with DHL titles operating around Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone. We know nothing about this little company, so if you know more, please share it. And if you have photos, these would be more than welcome!
Oneworld is not an airline, but a cooperation alliance of ten airlines. A number of aircraft have now been painted with large Oneworld titles and we decided to list these in a similar way as airlines. We do this too for other alliances and marketing schemes like Team Lufthansa, Star Alliance, Delta Connection, etc which are also not real airlines. The advantage of listing them as if they are airlines is that they are selectable in search menus. But the photos will also appear when you select the owner company, so a real win-win situation!
At the moment we have pictures of one aircraft of American Airlines, six of British Airways, one of Cathay Pacific Airlines, three of Finnair, one of Iberia, five of Japan Airlines - JAL, one of LAN Airlines, one of LAN Argentina (leased from LAN Airlines), two of Qantas and one of Royal Jordanian Airline. There is one more company in the alliance, Malev, but so far we haven’t seen pictures with the large Oneworld titles. LAN Argentina is not one of the ten members but is an affiliated one.
There is one aircraft with a special “Oneworld” c/s, JA704J of Japan Airlines - JAL. The photos are easily found by using the VUE method described further above.
This interesting museum is situated in a corner of Tehran - Mehrabad airport in Iran. There are quite a few airliners, among which a B747, a TriStar and two VIP B727s, and many Aero Commander types. Other notable aircraft are e.g a nice DC-3, a Slick Airways executive conversion of a Douglas A-26 Invader, a DHC-4 Caribou and a Kaman Huskie.
How to view the photos of the aircraft of this museum? Go to the frontal page and click on the green bar. Then select “Tehran - Mehrabad” in the Country/Airport window and “Preserved, non-flying aircraft” in the Category window. Also type “Tehran Aerospace Exhibition Center” in the Keywords window and then click on “Show me the Photos”. You can also skip the keywords window, but you will then get a couple of other preserved aircraft at the airport.
After you get the results, you can click on the “view unique entries” at the bottom of the page, and you can make your selection there, e.g. to view them by aircraft type, operator, or by cn (in the future by registration too).
Southern Sky Inc, seem to be related to The Pacific Corp (previous owners of Caribou) through a certain Clyde S Carter, Air America's Senior Vice President. And we all know who Air America were and they were even earlier owners of this Caribou.
Carter mentioned often here in relation to helicopters being disposed of from Air America to Pacific Corp to Southern Sky.

Great news to announce: the mystery of the cn of DHC-4 553 (now painted as EP-RAJ) has finally been solved! I have seen a picture of the cn plate and it says Ser.No.52 Date Mar 62.
So, Oly720man, your hypothesis is found to be correct!
Studying the cabin photo that we have in the database, it is clear that the aircraft was not used for standard cargo hauling, but was also in Iranaian Air Force service used for "other" services. There is still a table and a cupboard.
