Amsterdam In July

Hi Guys,

Just a quick random question really; what is the best day of the week to visit Amsterdam Schiphol in July, in terms of how busy the airport is and the variety/speciality of the scheduled aircraft/airlines? Does it really make much difference?

Hi bmi,

my experience told me that no matter what day you go you'll always have lots of interesting traffic at AMS. Sometimes you also get nice surprises and see aircraft that weren't necessarily on the schedule.

But maybe one of the locals can give you more detailed information.

Overall, Saturday seems to be the quitest day in AMS, but it really depends on what you think is interesting.

On this website, a full list of expected aircraft is posted for most days (the links are top left). You now need to register which apparently takes a couple of days.

You can also keep an eye on the Scramble forum, AMS section, for the more of less unusual visitors. Most posts are in English especially for you.

The bus / platform information is displayed on LCD screens right in front of you when you exit the terminal. There is a flat fee "Schiphol Ticket" which can be bought in the bus, costs EUR 1,50 and is valid for all the schiphol area bus stops.

I had a site listed in my favourites that showed nearly all expected arrivals at AMS each day with regs etc but I lost the link a while back. Does anybody here happen to have it by any chance?

It's the first link in reply two, but nowadays you need an account to view it where in the past you could go in without account.

Both the Sheraton and Hilton have outstanding views from some rooms; from others you see nothing. Ask for a room as high as possible although the top floors are reserved for members of their loyalty plans. Because both hotels are between the runways you won't see everything; rates are cheaper on weekends.

Ive just come back from AMS after a 3 day sortie there, there are plenty of things going on from the terminal view from 7am to 8pm and I'm sorting through 1662 pix taken over the time with one or two new aircraft seen so hopefully I may get them on here if the judges allow. I stayed on the panorama terrace as the weather wasnt that great and the chances of getting absolutely soaked on a walkabout didnt appeal much to me, the cafe was there and all the conveniences too so I saw no point in going from the area. but as regards visitors I thought that Thursday was the busiest of the three but that could just be me. I stayed at the citizen M at the airport -its 2 mins walk away from the main a/p building, its not cheap but my goodness it was classy. I didnt manage to get to the top floor but the view over the piers G and H are pretty good, especially when I saw the Atlas Blue 737 parked there. Look for bargains at the Ibis, A guy I spoke too got his for €65 - mine cost €210 for 3 nights so its worth looking for bargains. and just enjoy it all - I did.
