Hi,

just received a great offer from the leading German press agency, DPA. Some of you might have seen my recently uploaded birdstrike shot. They offered 60 Euros for all image rights of that picture! That's SIXTY Euros for a rather unique shot.
I still can't believe that they do think anyone would give away his pictures for such a low price but most probably they have success with their offers...

They said that it's their normal royalty for photos...  crazy  ???

Stefan

Exactly...key word normal. Your shot is NOT normal, so it's worth more!

indeed, that's their normal, not yours! I wouldn't give away ALL photo rights to a side-on ramp shot of a Cessna 182 for 60 Euros.

for all image rights of that picture!

Let me add to my previous post.

I wouldn't sell the rights to that shot for thousands of Euros. There is a reason why that is the only photo of an actual bird strike(s) in a database of 1.5million photos, it's unique. Over your lifetime, you could easily make many times more than that on that photo.

Sell it for a one time fee, but KEEP THE RIGHTS!

Hi,

sold the picture to some newspapers and magazines already for a quite good fee.
It's just that I'm really annoyed by such an offer. It's a joke to pay the photographer 60 Euros and re-sell the pictures for hundreds or even thousands. That's insane!

When you say all rights, I take it that means a transfer of copyright to them? Thus surrendering your rights to use your own image? EUR60 is an insult for multiple or unlimited usage, let alone them wanting the copyright too! What a cheek!

They've got some bl##dy cheek, that's about maybe a cheap price for one off use of a normal image, let alone one that is very unique.

Probably normal for the mugs who are silly enough to give their images away for those prices. Still, if you were in their position, it's worth a try - no matter how dubious it might be.

jop, they want all copyrights for that price. 60 Euros seems to be their rate for special pictures because they also offered 40 Euros for the less spectacular picture showing the plane while leaving the runway.

There's a photographer in SoCal who has licensed three images for close to 20,000 dollars not too long ago. Nope, not sold his copyrights, just the usage rights!

And yes, there was a plane in it. A ramp shot with a person on the wing. Nothing unique.

It's really all about how good a business man you are, not how good a photographer  Smile
