I know how plugging pics here isn't the best form but I am doing it now. I was headed home from work and got a SMS from Dave Budd about a pic from LAS. He didn't tell me it was Ryan's but when I got home I was met with this. Simply Briillant!

I love these shots. They are creative, awesome, aviation and not the easiest to get but they give the viewer a lot of what he wants. This shot gives you that thrill of rotating, banking and best of all THE STRIP!

For those of of you who don't know Ryan he is one of the most underrated photogs and best guys to shoot with and hang out. He lives and works in SAN and is a proud WN man. His shots never disappoint and I hope he keeps uploading shots like these! Congratulations on a truly great capture.

Gotta agree with you Nik, fantastic shot by Ryan, especially when you consider how difficult a night window shot is to take.

I don't mind joining the band wagon and congratulating Ryan on a great shot. I know how hard it is to get such shots and appreciate seeing one that is well done.

Great shot!

Agreed, great shot, I saw it first thing this morning and made sure to leave a 5* rating. Tough shot and it came out great.

Good quality too

Tim, I'd go one better mate...That's outstanding quality, actually better quality than a lot of my daytime shots!!! Haha, unreal man!
I've only got one similar shot to this in the DB and man it took a long time to edit and is still only half the shot Ryan's is! So well done Ry, and Nick too for bringing it to our attention. Stunning image.
Spence.

I am going to be the party pooper......this is an old hat.
I have done it back in 2004, with an aging Nikon D100 and almost no editing.......

Great shot Ryan, the clarity is amazing for a night shot from a MOVING airplane! It is hard enough for me to get a clear night shot from a tripod on the ground, much less from a moving object moving in three dimensions with no tripod!

Worthy of the photographer's choice, and I hope it wins.

Keep up the spectacular work!

Neat shot Ryan, very nice. I took about the same one as Vasco did two years ago.....good fun.

Regarding the avoidance of reflections....I got this one by putting my black sweater all over my head. Glad I had a very understanding seatmate. Big grin

cheers,
Florian

My only complaint is that there's not enough of the CityCenter complex in the photo.  duck

I have to say that some of my favorite shots here are night shots of Las Vegas. The Strip is a very unique element to take photos of. While they are impressive in day shots, the night shows blow them out of the water. This is why I like flying into LAS at night, as you're flying along in the dark and BLAMMO! the lights of Las Vegas appear.

Ryan has another Vegas night shot that I like as well:

Quoting Phoenix9 (Reply 13):

I cupped my hand around the barrel of the lens at the front, essentially acting like a lens hood. I rested the pinky edge of my hand against the window and tried to keep the lens as close to the window as possible. My hand acted as an anchor to help hold steady.

Believe it or not this was taken at ISO 1600. Fortunately it cleaned up really well with a small amount of noise reduction using NeatImage.

Quoting Vishaljo (Reply 15):

Correct. I used a Canon 40D and 24-104L. 1/25sec f4 ISO 1600.

That is an awesome shot Florian! Luckily, the flight was not very full with a lot of empty seats in the back. I didn't have to worry about over-head reading lights so there wasn't much of a reflection problem to deal with in the first place.
