Hello,

I'm sure this has been discussed many times, but I was wondering what the deal is with taking pictures from OUTSIDE of a US military base, of the military planes in the USA. I know that you can get yelled at outside of a civilian airport, and I can only imagine what might happen outside of a military base, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience or suggestions.
Thanks,
-Luke

You're probably looking at least a bit more scrutiny wandering outside the fence of a major military base with a camera, but I've not had problems. To the letter of the law if you're on public property you can take a picture of anything you want and this includes military aircraft, but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't get hassled by someone overstepping their bounds.

Also bear in mind that many commercial airports have military bases on them (mainly ANG facilities) and I've happily taken many shots of military aircraft at my local airport, BDL, without trouble.

I go to Mildenhall United Stated Air Force Base in the UK quite a bit and they have a truck trailer so you can get photos from over the fence!

It depends on which base. Nellis is no problem for example and has quite a lot of people sitting by the fence. The problem with some military bases is that they fence off empty area and you cant get close to the action from outside.
