Every once in a blue moon I'll get a email about one of my photos sent thru airliners.net thats just straight up insulting and/or vulgar. I realize no matter what you do, there will always be some assholes out there, But is there a way to track someone who did this?

Does this happen to a lot of you all once in a while or am I the only one?

Thanks,
B

With regard to tracking the email Brian, I believe Johan can track the IP number or something similar. I think is says this when you want to send someone an email thru their photos, somewhere in the form

Martin

Sorry for my dumb question, but do I understand it right? Do you get insulting mails, because of some pics in the A.net database? Why that? Don't they like airplanes or what?

So far I never got negative emails because of my pics. On the contrary, I had some wonderful emails in the past.

I've had alot of "hate mail" usually in regards to my comments on photos... one comment in particular where about 1 out of 4 hate emails are actually emails saying how clever and funny the comment was.. (which is no suprize, im naturally clever and funny)

The only thing that gripes my ass is when people give fake return email addresses and there is no way to respond...

Oh well, it's all harmless, a little hate mail is always fun!

Sorry, i had to add this one... a while back some guy (i've had a myriad of complaints for this one) write and bash me for calling a J41 a "junkstream". We went back and forth on that one and he whined the whole time. Then he had the audacity to say "if you remove the comment, i will feature the picture on my website" a personal website at that... i got a good laugh about that and made sure he knew how funny i thought it was  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Of course my comment about ORD cops definetly takes the cake in the hate mail dept. for me.

I get them too, one because I wrote on the wall of an airplane (last DL L10 flight). I had fun with that guy let me tell ya.

Anyway, yeah...It seems to be mostly about the remarks, and not the photos themselves. Its irritating at best, although it can be fun to respond and blast them out the water....

Anyone got any hate mail stories they'd like to share?

I've had a few - one along the lines of "why did you bother taking that shot?" ... which was a bit ironic as I sort of agreed with him - boring cockpit shot, which I'm not particularly interested in, but I know the simmers thrive on them!

The others were "get off my turf" type messages.

In all cases the return address was fake or non-functional.

Cheers,

colun

We couldn't post them on here. I responded to one guy, and his response was stupid and he ended it with "if i had your address i'd hunt you down and shoot you in the head". Too bad I just deleted it this week....

That's hysterical ... stay off my turf, heh.

I think we had a discussion about those types of emails a while back.

Everybody's brave behind the keyboard - try walking up to me with those comments when you see me taking pix.

The only nasty email I ever got was from a guy who objected to me calling ERJ's "Jungle Jet" on one of my photos. He told me that was racist of me....

I replied to him that the first time I ever heard this term was in Miami one year and the guy who said it was Brazilian! He never replied back after that.

I had an email "conversation" that turned nasty. It started with a "friendly" email from a guy warning me to remove a pic I had taken of Air xxx's aircraft, because Air xxx owned the copyright and not me. I basically replied back that he didn't know what he was talking about. Well, the emails went back and forth, and with every one he was getting more and more insistent and less and less "friendly" because he knew someone who worked for the airline and I was ripping them off, and they would sue me if I didn't do something. In the end, he was starting to get abusive and I'd just had enough, so I emailed him back and told him to f*** off and leave me alone and get a life, because I wasn't going to remove some photograph on his say so, and if they really wanted to sue me then let them try. Well, needless to say, the reply I had to this was poisonous, and all you other guys might like to know that apparently we are all (everyone on Airliners.net) a bunch of f***ing ****s who **** off every time we see an airplane, not to mention being sad and pathetic and we should ALL just grow up and get a life.

Shucks. Aint it nice to be appreciated?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The good emails currently outweigh the bad by about 1000 to 1.

You are a stupid motherfucker with much mud in your head. To Airbus planes, you say he, not she ! To Boeing planes, you say she, but not to airbusses

I have checked all my pics to see if I really used "he" for an airplane anywhere, and I DIDN´T! I´m not going to reply to such stupid emails as I´m not interested in having a damned conversation with this idiot.

Regards from FRA
Ivica
btw: Merry Christmas and a happy and successful 2002!

None of this is a surprise to me- on the evening news last week they said that 75% of pedophiles lurk on the internet- who knows what kind of other crazies are out there trying to cause havoc.

Carlos, I got the Jungle Jet email too, from an Embraer engineer - same guy? He pointed out how developed his country, the poor man was really insulted, and in fact I apologized.

Gotta be careful with political correctness these days, most of the nasty emails I get (at least a dozen so far) are just due to misunderstandings (and others from stupidity!)

i had a back-and-forth thing going a long time ago, i just remember (since i delight myself with my own wit) i responded to a guy.. "Ya know, jesus probably loves you but im sorry that no one else does or ever has"

I rarely will tell people to **** off or something, i actually look forward to a battle of wits that I always win because its those people who always lose their heads, there's no reason for me to. (and i'm arrogant, i never lose an argument)

I'd say about 5% of the emails are not friendly... but i love 100% of them!
