I was over there earlier and saw that beauty sitting in a hangar! I was curious as to what it might be doing there, and when it is going to possibly be leaving. I tried checking on Flight Aware by tail number and it gave me no information, even as to WHEN it arrived in Tampa. Can anyone else help me out? Because when it leaves TPA, THAT WILL be a site to see and catch! Very rare for there indeed, and I wouldn't care if it's raining I'll go and catch it. lol

I wrote it up there. Pretty sure it's N121UA. Its the only *A livery United has on a 744 as far as I know. Unless this is a new one which I highly doubt

So can anyone else help me with possibly figuring out when it might be leaving TPA? I set an alert on flightaware, if I understood it correctly, to alert me when a flight plan is filed. Is that probably my best bet of finding out when it will be departing?

Ahh. Good to know! do you work there or what? Is there a way to have a little more info on the departure if you have it? Was it another 74 that was there? (sorry for all the questions!)
Also, they have flights from TPA-ORD obviously, will they use it as an actual fare flight or just as a ferry?

This is what I've heard from a friend of mine who has spoken to Pemco on the matter. UA is sending a 744 to TPA every 8 days to have some sort of mx performed. I hear the next exchange of 744s is on Sunday, meaning the one that is there will leave and another one will be along shortly.
And this will be happening until March. So I'm told.
But don't quote me.

Either way, that's awesome, and great to know! Even if you say it may not be super accurate, it's better than any info I had before! I will definitely be on the look out then, and I think my chances have just gone up to be catching some good heavies!
