Is anyone wth one of these machines able to advise me on what I think is a software issue? I'm not using it any differently from usual, and it sometimes hangs up during a Digital GEM Apply process, or sometimes if I get beyond that, it fails to complete the final saving to disk with the "Unknown error. Confirm other dimage scan software is closed" message.
There is no other Dimage software open of course. I even closed the launch/setting up page.
Each function I select on the Dimage control panel takes several minutes for a response.
I've tried full shutdown and restart.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the software from the CD ROM - I successfully scanned and saved one image and now its back to its tricks again.

I use a Scan Elite II and I dread anything going wrong as it is a fantastic scanner. Digital Ice (similar to Gem) is slow but very good and I would try scanning with it turned off. I rarely scan at above 2700 resolution which also speeds things up a bit
