It is with great pride that I am able to share with the community that Mike Bednar, aka AirNikon, or Mickey, to his friends, has finally reached 10,000 photos online here at airliners.net
When Mike passed away in late-2006 he actually had 9,999 photos in the database, one of which was later removed as it was a double, bringing his total to 9,998.
After Mike's passing his friends were instrumental in making sure his extensive photo collection was passed on to someone worthy of maintaining his vast collection, which would turn out to be the Pima Air and Space Museum.
Fellow screener Mick Bajcar made the decision to get Mike's total uploads to 10,000, a number befitting of such a long time contributor, both as a photog and as a screener. However, as with many things in life, this choose to be a difficult task. See, AirNikon was very good at uploading all his "worthy" shots, and finding two that would be accepted here was quite the task!
Well, Mick stuck with it, and today we added numbers 9,999 and 10,000.

Quoting Silver1SWA (Reply 1): I remember seeing his shots all over the database when I first found this site over ten years ago.
10,000 WWow !!
Would a small little banner/hyperlink or something on the frontpage for this thread be a lot to ask ?
I think its only befitting for a contributor like Mike.
Royal, Just like Ryan said above about Mike's shots being prominent in the database back in the day, i never actually knew his last name, perhaps because i didn't troll the forums back then but I'm curious to know more about him.
What did he do ?
He passed away before his time it seems, what was it ?

I would also like to thank John Bezosky, the Collections Registrar at Pima who has been wading through the collection and sending me images to consider. AirNikon had actually submitted virtually everything that he had taken and most that John sent me were either sub-standard or doubles and there was a point that I thought that we might not make it
But we did.

There's an item on the front page news about it now. Good news for us as a community. Good work on Mick for getting those last two uploaded. I joined right around the time that Mickey died and didn't really get to know him before I started contributing. I was influenced by him, though, as I frequently saw his contributions before I registered on the site and was just a visitor. RIP.

What a fantastic achievement and what an amazing legacy for future generations. Absolutely fantastic to see that a portofolio reached the mytical 5 digits.
Congratulations to everybody on A.net and a special forever thanks to Mike Bednar that would be proud of his work.
