I recently re-installed PS7 on my new PC. When I processed my pictures,I cop first. When PS was on my old PC,the dotted 'box' was moveable around the plane, but if you pulled it one way( width) ,it also pulled the other way (height) on its own. Then when I saved image I had this set at 4:3 ratio. Then if i set the width to 1200,it automatically set the height to 900 and the image did not look distorted. I cannot remember how this was set up in PS7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When you select the rectangle marquee you should get boxes in the control bar above the work area. There you can select Normal, Fixed size or Fixed Ratio in the drop down menu, and then set size/ratio.
But it does not set the 1200-900 automatically, that you have to do in Image Size, and choose constrain proportions.
