I did a quick search and couldn't find any pictures, but on CNN they showed some politician making a statement outside the White House and a press photographer with was taking pictures of the guy and had his FlipHD mounted via the camera's flash mount above the viewfinder.

Was this a self mod or does someone make a mount for this?

I mount my Flip on the top of my D80 with a piece of velcro, some tape, and an eraser. The eraser props it up a bit and the velcro lets me detach it to put both the cameras into their respective cases.

It's a bit floppy sometimes, but it does the job, and lets me get video like this:

While I get photos like this:

If I knew of a solid yet still adaptable mount I'd buy it (or try and make it) in a heartbeat.

I just ordered one of those day, can you show pics of how you mounted it etc? Cool idea. Thanks.

I believe he now uses a single screw and the camcorder sits mounted to the camera by their bases, meaning one is upside down but it allows for an external flash.

Anyone know where I can get either the shoe mount with threaded screw on top or a screw that mounts a small video camera upside down to a DSLR via the tripod socket? Thanks.

A hardware store. From memory it's simply a 1/4 inch screw and you file/hacksaw down the length so they fit. Some places could just sell the threaded part but it's not as common as a screw.
