Heya Folks,

Just wanted to know some important things about RIAT which is happening on the 17th-18th July this year at RAF Fariford, Gloucestershire. Is there any way I can find a programme of the events? What time does the airshow start? Which is best for viewing the airshow - jubilee garden, etc? Which is the best of the two days; Saturday or Sunday?

Looking to book tickets, but I just need to finalise a few things first!

Cheers guys!

-Alf

Alf,

www.airtattoo.com

should answer most of your questions.

As to which day is best, that really depends on the weather and if any particular display you wish to see is only on one day - check the RIAT website regularly. I tend to buy the 'Either' day ticket which is £5 more but you get to choose your day nearer the time when you have a better idea of the weather.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

Is there really a difference between the two days, disregarding weather.

I couldn't find a programme and was looking for some information about times to get there from those who've been.

Thanks,

Alf

Alf,

It doesn't make that much difference. Some aircraft or display teams will not do both days (there just isn't time). I've always gone on the saturday and enjoyed it.

In terms of being there, the earlier the better. I typically arrive between 0800-0900 (some recommend much earlier but tbh, I personally don't see the point) Allow for traffic if you're driving.

It's a great show, with plenty of space in the viewing areas. The further away from crowd centre you are, the easier it is to get to the front.

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

Hi Alf,

It's still too early for RIAT to put together a programme, which is why you can't find one. So no clues as to which day is better than any other, both wll be great. As to times, earlier tends to be better for me, but I'm a dawn till dusk airshow attender which makes for a long day......

Regards,

Jim

Jim, what time does the airshow start? Is it worth getting there a bit earlier to leave time for parking, etc and get a good look around before the crowds flood in?

Many thanks,

Alf

Alf,

I'm not sure what time RIAT opens or when the flying starts (usually 11?) - expect to queue at any time, but once the gates open it moves swiftly enough.

RIAT is big. The concept of getting a good look around before the crowds flood in doesn't really apply in the same way it does elsewhere. There is plenty of room on the site, but for photography, the ropes are often too close to the aircraft for you to get clear shots of many of the airframes without someone or something getting in the way, but the plus side is that you can get close. There are less people around very early and very late, obviously, but even when you get in early, you don't have long before the place seems busy. You won't get a good look at everything in the static and be able to concentrate on all the aerial displays, I usually miss the first few displays as I'm still walking around the static. It's difficult to do justice to the whole event in a single day.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just turn up, with plenty of food, water, a hat, suncream and a mac for the rain and see what happens. After a few visits, you'll find your own preferred way of enjoying the show.

Best regards,

Jim

Quoting GPHOTO (Reply 7):
usually 11?

This is too late. The flying starts around 9am usually. Get there early if you dont want to see it from inside a traffic jam.
