Looks great but frankly i don't like that olive green colour on the strap, the bag and on the dial. But ok, performance of the camera is much more important.
Quoting vishaljo (Thread starter): So the question is, When's the Megan Fox Edition 7D Coming Out ?
Or The Pamela Anderson Edition Nikon D5000XX

That's just sad! I think I'd have to laugh if someone turned up at my local with one! Seriously, most 550D users aren't impressionable kids and I think this will be bad for Canon's professionalism.

Quoting ryan h (Reply 6): I think Canon have brought this one out for the people who think "I must have it". That way Canon sell more cameras and make more money
Thing is, it may compromise their professionalism with this gimmick which clearly appeals to kids. I mean, who in their right mind here is going to fork out a few extra pennies just for the privilege of owning a Jackie Chan camera? It's not even as though Chan is an accomplished photographer! In fact, looking at that last image in the original post it appears that he has no clue about how to use it!
Seriously, this from a company that sells 1Ds IIIs to pro's.......???

Karl, Jackie is The Brand Ambassador for Canon China, he has a large fan following in atleast 25% of the World's Population - which is based in China.
That's a hell of a potential clientele, Canon couldn't have found a better person.
While Jackie's popularity here in India just like there in the UK or the US may be the same i.e., Not Much, i'm sure he has a devout fanbase in The Mainland atleast if not elsewhere in South East Asia & thats another 10-15% of the World's Population.
I'm no fanboy BUT if Canon came out with a Sachin Tendulkar Edition Semi-Pro / Pro Camera Body, i will be torn apart between my instincts & logic.
Thats what Marketing is, to create that desire.
Sachin in India is more than an Icon - he's a Deity !!
These are the kind of large banners you will see at most Cricket Matches worldwide where India is Playing,
The Noise when he comes out to bat in a Cricket Stadium & the Silence when (or if) he gets Out are one of the great spectacles of This Most Magnificent of Sports called Cricket besides the display of the Awe-Inspiring Craft that this Gentleman honours us with.
I WORSHIP HIM, just like most of my other Countrymen - that's ANOTHER 25% OF THE WORLD'S POPULATION, although the Purchasing Power of the Chinese masses for now will be slightly higher than the Indians'
Lets say a David Beckham Series Limited Edition Product released in the UK, there's guaranteed to be a mad rush for it - I would assume same goes for our neighbors up North of us with Jackie.
Btw, Sachin is also The Brand Ambassador for Canon India

Vishal,
Fair enough, but in my opinion anyone who buys a camera solely because it is endorsed by a celebrity is either obsessed or buying the camera for completely the wrong reasons. Maybe it's a culture thing but I'm pretty sure people here in the UK would not base their camera body choice on celebrity endorsement. A cheaper compact perhaps, but not something that's on a professional level.
Also, I am of the opinon that, if Canon need to resort to this to sell cameras, they must be getting pretty desperate for world domination!
Risking reputation among semi-pro and pro photographers for the sake of sales seems a little gung-ho to me; like this decision was made with haste.
I have to wonder whether Nikon would do a similar thing.....

I totally agree with you but it's amazing what a bit of marketing and celebrity endorsement does for sales. I'm sure Canon won't have any problems shifting these cameras, probably at a premium too. I don't think it will make a difference to the higher end of the market because the 550D is really aimed at the amateur end and I doubt those that shoot professionally will bat an eye-lid, or even know about it in this part of the world.

Celebrity endorsement is nothing new, VW made Rolling Stones editions of the Golf as an example. 550D is a camera for happy amateurs who have outgrown their P&S or comes from a 1000D. It's not aimed at pro's, semi or not.

Karl,
Think about it. The more amatuers and casual snap shooters you can convert to DSLR by way of the Rebel series, the more people you might turn on to serious photography. People who will want to go on to shooting with serious gear. This is especially good, in my opinion, to get the younger generation interested in photography. It's just an endorsement and no doubt it means a heck of a lot more to the people in China than the rest of the world.
It actually looks like a sharp-looking piece of gear in my opinion. Some might even get it for the collectable value.

Imagine if they made a pink rebel! It's like with the pink Motorola razor, or a pink point and shoot camera, girls would buy it just because it's pink.

It's just celeb endorsement. The original Rebel was called the 'Kiss' in Japan; the light weight construction and ease of use was targeted at women making the leap from point and shoot. The wonders of marketing.

Nikon has made at least 2 "special edition" bodies that I personally am aware of- the "Gold Edition" D60 and the "Year of the Dragon" FM2. Not sure of the reason for the gold D60(probably sales of this D40x replacement, with nothing new on it except "sensor cleaning", were lacking) but the Dragon FM2 was to commemorate the new millenium. The dragon badge on that camera looked pretty cool. Cooler than Jackie Chan looks, anyway. Great, I just earned myself a karate chop.
