Heya!

I was just wondering if anyone was off to Heathrow this Saturday for the first AF A380 arrival.

If so, please say!

I won't bother as the light won't be much good at 1025 even if sunny. I would rather go and get the first Sun Country 737 arrival at STN instead.

Hi!

Oh awesome, a Sun Country 737, at Standsted?! I saw one in LAX at December.

Well done you. And I see A380's day in day out.

Ah, I presume also you see Air France A380s too, every day. Ok...

The light shouldn't be too harsh at that time, especially if shot from the end of Cains Lane where they are very low (providing of course they are on 27L before 15:00). Also, AF 380s will soon be a novelty at LHR and so an image from that spot with all the trademark Heathrow hangars, etc. in the back will be quite special. I'd sooner have a reasonable shot of it than nothing at all, however I also see the appeal in a shot of the Sun Country at STN.

The light for the AF 380s would be better in August, if they are still planning to operate it until then? West-east aligned runways are always awkward at the height of summer but with care decent shots are still attainable.

I'll no doubt have a go at it while it's operating but I shan't be hanging around for the departure shot.....

AF A380's will be operating at least until the August Bank Holiday weekend. Digressing I thought the arrival time of the A380 was around 11.00 local on Sat/Sun but there you go.

Sorry and all that.

It's just that I would prefer a shot of a colourful 737 than a virtually all white A380. It's around until August anyway if I did want to get it.

Plus, I'm due to be on the A380 to Paris this Saturday anyway, so might be able to shoot it through the T4 lounge window.

The big question is if their landing on 09's will it be left or right. I was shooting 09L from the T5 embankment last week and the crowd started to build for the EK 380. Then at the last moment it swapped to 09R.... Also a DL 777 in the new pink colours landed on 09R. Grrrrrr. The following day both aircraft stayed on 09L ???? Lucky old us , we we got at the same time on 09L a BA320 and a BD319 !!!

To add to the fun AF are one of the carriers who often swap to 09R if available.

I can just imagine the panic if it swaps at the last moment.

Haha Simon! ONLY us LHR spotters no that feeling! It's happened to me many-a-time! Well, weather says 09s, but today I have seen lots of 27 landings. As the AF A380 will be at T4, she is almost guaranteed to land on 09R for a quick taxi over. Maybe, if we get down to Myrtle Avenue, a shot with a long lens will get us the Water Cannon arrival?

I just want her to be on 27L!

If they are on easterlies, getting it departing, that way you don't have to worry about which runway it will use.

So what time is it due to arrive ?
If it's a 09R arrival I should be able to capture it from my back garden with around 150mm

I flew on AFR006/7 CDG-JFK return a couple of weeks ago. Here's what you can see onboard, sadly A.net deemed it not worthy and gave me a motiv rejection, which I think is very vey sad....

Last time I checked Air France's website, they were offering the A380 as the cheapest option on the route.
I think people will be avoiding the A380 because the time it takes to Load and Unload.

Judging by the amount of people I personally know who've been or are booked up soon I very much doubt your statement is true. Besides, those travelling 'normally' to Paris won't have much of a clue about the aircraft type they'll be flying on.

Finally, AF may as well fly it as opposed to leaving in on the deck at CDG for much of the day. Crew training and revenue flights in one - bonus for them I'd say!
