Budget: $250~

Intended Use: People Photography and for the sake of keeping the thread in the AvP Section lets say, i wish to shoot Cockpits though that's not the #1 priority.

Shortlisted Flashes are:

1. 430 EX II, its currently $250/- on B&H till 7/10/2010 & $280/- afterwards

2. LP160, i heard a lot about this one on FM but its a lot of technical stuff & i'm not into flashes so i just entertained myself by watching all the good photos & browsing out.

They (FM folks) rate this gentlemen very highly & he has only the highest praises to lavish on the LP160 - http://strobist.blogspot.com/2010/06/lumppro-lp160-quad-sync-v20.html

My friend Rutvij is in CA right now due to return in 2 weeks, I have 2 days to get the $30/- discount at B&H if i decide to go for the 430 or is the Third Party Flash better ?

Thank You

I use a 430EX and it's more than up to the job for what you want to use it for. The 580 is nice if you need the extra power, but just for flight decks, the 430EX is more han adequate. A couple of examples:

430EX shuold be work for your requirements. I'm using this one and even if need extra power you can just adjust it. I was trying with my 100-400 lens on maximum power and at 200mm works ok.
I can only recomment it.

I actually have both the 580EX II and the 430EX II. I think the 430 EX II will be fine for your needs (and I'd personally stick to Canon). But, the 580EX II is definitely worth the extra money if you can afford it. Sometimes you do need the extra power and the 580EX II does deliver over the 430EX II in that respect. Maybe not for flight decks, but I'm sure you'll use it in other situations too.

I assume you've already looked at them, but here are Bryan reviews on the two:

Darren, Gabriel, Tony - Thank You Very Much

Same goes to Dan & Gabor for their prompt email replies.

I ordered the 430EX II just in time for the rebate.

It should currently be enroute to Nishant's home in San Jose where another Mumbai Boy Rutvij should pick it up & get it home to me safe & sound

I would've also picked-up the OC-E3 but its Temporarily unavailable at B&H.

One very important thing a gentleman at FM said to me was

Quoting digitalbug30d:
use 2400+ mah batteries in the flash this will improve cycle times, lessor mah ones will be the opposite effect...most store bought ones are 800-1300 not good
just got sunpak 2650 mah ones for my 580 exII yeah much faster can keep up.
