I am planning a trip to SXM either in Jan. or Feb. of next year. It looks like the light at that time of year is great, and it looks like I can shoot from the Sunset Bar and Grill. If any of you guys have been down there that time of year would you agree that would be a good time to go. Also I was thinking of staying at the Sonesta right there on the beach, any better options, and has anybody stayed at the Sonesta? Any info would be appreciated.

Andrew - November through February is the perfect time to go, beautiful light at your back, all day long.

I've stayed at the Sonesta, and it was perfectly nice. Nothing super extravagant, but it does offer some great views from the balconies. I'd recommend it.

Cheers,

I've also stayed at the Sonesta. The hotel is ok and it only takes 5 minutes to walk from the hotel to the Sunset Bar.

You can also take pictures from the hotel side.

I was there in February and that was a nice time.
