Hi ,
Most known place is the O'Hare Aeropsace center near Lawrence/ Mannheim intersection at Scott St (USG parking lot). All traffic at rwy 28. Usually all cargo , sometimes european aircrafts. Pretty nice view of all traffic inbound and outbound of ORD.
Allstate / Target area - arrivals at rwy 22R / 27R. Since rwy 27R was open runway 22R is mostly used when we got S winds ( with rwy 14R).
York Rd (west) at rwy 10. All heavies , including european arriving there.
Irving Park/ Seymour - rwy 04R arrivals , 22L departures - mostly smaller a/c's - domestic flights.
There are more places with higher risk of police supervision...
Enjoy!

Here's a Google Map I made for ORD. It's publically editable too: http://bit.ly/aqes7r

Nice job with this map. I add some spots that I like. I think you know them.
I didn't mark hills on York rd at 10 because in last days there is a higher activity of police/security. We , members of ORD airport watch are familiar for security/police so in case of catch on hills or other strange places (like USPS parking lot at cargo) we can explain our situation...
Best regards , Gabriel

Wasn't there a thread on here about 3 months ago that said ORD was setting up a linup with llocal spotters that would include area police departments?

The link seems broken but you guys probably covered all the spots. The program is called Airport Watch and was started with the Bensenville police department and the Aviation world store.

I just clicked the link and it's still good. It has to be the original link though, not the "quoted" link. Here it is again: http://bit.ly/aqes7r
I am also a founding member of the airport watch thru Aviation World. So far I have never been confronted with police questioning, but have heard plenty that have been. MAKE SURE you are on public property... side street to the west or a sidewalk near a street.

Right , but about two weeks ago I saw four peoples in three cars that left their cars just at York Rd (they didn't even trying to find a place to left their cars off York Rd) and run on west side hills to see aircrafts landing. They wasn't local spotters... In about 5 minutes three police cars arrived and they ask them to leave area. I was staying on Beeline and police didn't ask me what I am doing here. Next day one police car show up 3 times during my spotting time. Some people don't know how to use a brain...

Best way to climb there is not be seen by anybody. When you sitting there try to not be visible from York rd or from perimeter road behind airport fence. Right now they mowe grass and bushes and top of the hill is clear...
BTW it is not normal that someone is jumping and waving in place like this.

I usually sit down when I'm on the hill and nobody can see me. When the police came I was with someone else who kept getting up and therefore someone saw him and called the cops. You can climb up from the side so that there's less chance of someone seeing you climb. The things we do for our hobby!

Good for runway 32R departures and quite low key. It is a truck turnaround circle. Not too much traffic takes off on 32R but some days they have all European departures take off from it and also Air Force One always uses this runway.

Hey Ivan , I aready mark this location. It is at the end of Mt Prospect Rd right?
I remember that spot when there was no airport gates only abandoned building with truck docks , some trees and auto bodyshop. I climb on that building couple of times and enjoyed beautiful view of airport with Chicago skyline in background. I got some pictures I have never published.
Here are some examples from that times:

Yes, the 767 is landing on 10. It is shot from the hills which we talked about above. The second one is landing on 27R and is shot from the north side at the end of Wolf rd. That spot is marked on the map as well.

Hello guys, I too am going to ORD in 3 weeks. I was wondering if they are not using 28/27L to land. Would they be using 10 for takeoffs as well? The United picture above looks like the 777 and 744 are heading for 10. It seems like if they are using 10 that the USG parking lot/Scott street would be good for runway 10 takeoffs.

Runway 10 is rarely used for takeoffs and if it is it will be something heavy. I've seen them use runway 10 but it is not very common. Otherwise yes the USG parking lot is not bad to get the head on takeoff shot.Gabriel was at the right place at the right time I would say

We were together with Frank Robitaile on the hills that day.
Last days rwy 10 /28 was used for departures. We had 180 wind so the same runway was used once as 10 once as 28 (eg. two departures from 10 , three from 28 , one from 10 etc) . I was trying to get N542UA on saturday and was waiting at York Rd for 28 departure but take off was from 10... I didn't make it. I couldn't be on the other side when heard on radio "United 17 runway 10 clear to take off ".
