Aeroflot Il-96s - Best Place To Shoot Them?

Hi all,

Was planning to get out to SZG 9th Jan but in the end it didn't happen. I believe SU's Il-96s are going in there every Saturday until March?

Where else in Europe (aside from Russia) would be a good place to guarantee them on a weekly (perhaps even daily) basis?

Cheers,

Karl

Hi Karl,

This one I saw at IST. I've no idea if they're regulars.

Maybe in LGW or MAD you would get Cubana IL-96

Thanks, however I have the Cubana Il-96s. Was specifically interested in the Aeroflot ones.

As far as I know there aren't flights to Istanbul scheduled with IL9 anymore.
The only place where you can still shoot them on a regular and predictable basis in Europe is probably Salzburg on certain winter days.

It's a pity you couldn't make it on the 9th. The weather was great and the IL9 looked fabulous, well worth the trip.
We could have also met, I would have liked that.
I know this post doesn't help but simply wanted to say it would have been nice to see you in SZG.
Perhaps another time?

Karl,

A few others were off to SZG too then, if I'm correct?

Afraid so. It was the same 2 that I saw last year though. The 9th was a good day with the Ifly and Aeroflot's!

Hi!

Correct, now is the right time to see some Russians in SZG. Two IL96 plus a Transaero 772, maybe some YAKs among others can be seen every saturday until March 26 according to the flightplan.

Greetings,
Philip

This summer, Larnaca (LCA) is getting two IL-96's of Aeroflot a day! One comes in at 8:20 and the second one at 18:00.

Found myself some time to spend my holidays in June over there.

Regards

It was when we were boarding our Ryanair flight... Walked out of the queue and ran right up to the taxiway and reeled of the shots! I was expecting a bollocking but thought it was worth it to have an IL-96 right past me but None of the airport staff said anything!

Awesome. Do that in London and the jumped up little airport coppers would be all over you
Worth it in that case though

You were very lucky! The IL-96 was holding by the ramp for quite a while as another aircraft that had landed was blocking the taxiway. Once it eventually passed the spotters hill the light was gone...
