Just a heads up for Sydney photographers who work in the CBD - have a look in the window of the Digidirect camera store in King Street, around the corner from the Apple store.

They have 16kg and $27,000 worth of the craziest lens you are ever likely to see on display!

could someone post a picture of it or something? sounds huge! I wish I could see it (and afford it) but somehow I can't justify flying to another continent just to go look at it   though I wish I could...

Can we make this quick? my Boeing's double-parked.

Sadly, I only managed to photograph reflections of cars on the window (iPhone camera) - but it's a Sigma 200-500mm F/2.8. The only one in Australia according to the store.

It's massive. I got a fisheye-Nikkor - and didn't notice the Sigma until I got inside the place. Amazing lens indeed. It's almost comical.

That Dino lens makes the new Canon 400/2.8 at 3.8 KG seem like a bargain at $10.5K!!

You could hang a Nikon D3S off the back of the lens, and the whole camera will have plenty of clear-air under it.

I have no idea what mount the one in store is made for (Nikon or Canon) - I didn't ask, nor did I inspect it myself as I was in a hurry, but it's clearly an impressive bit of kit.

My reaction to seeing it was rather expletive laden!

I don't know what you could use a 200-500 F/2.8 for, it's too massive for anything.   But it's good for a laugh - and for bragging rights.

True! And a workout at the same time. I'd be too scared of the whole thing falling on the ground.  Wow!

Well, I wouldn't knock one back if it were given to me. More maximum aperture is always handy at night.   Fortunately I'm not bothered with heavy camera lenses.  Smile So no chiropractors for me.

Dropped by on the way to work this morning and managed the same reflections.

Bit beyond my means.....

Sad but that was my first thought when I saw that image also, I fail to see why it is quite so big but I am sure that there is a reason.

Matt: It's the F/2.8 aperture on a 200-500mm lens. A 400 F/2.8 is giant as well, but not as giant as this.

That assumes the ones that don't take a dim view of people who photograph planes... And yes, there are a few of them about.

I was actually getting at the benefits the weight of the lens will have on your muscles. I would think the lens itself would scare the ladies away more than anything else!

Mine too. I'll tell you one thing, they are a pretty decent camera store, quite cheap for local market non-grey import merchandise. I stumbled across them while getting my iPhone 4 when it was released for the first time, the waiting queue snaked past the camera store.

I agree, one of the few "bricks &mortar stores"I would go to in Sydney
