SXM hands up!

But actually it it depends on what you want to see. Do you want to be close to the aircraft? Do you want a big variety of airlines? It is a quite vague question...

Judging by your screenname, I'm going to assume you're from Florida?

If so, Miami and Fort Lauderdale (and to a lesser extent FXE and OPF) are by far the best airports for spotting in the region. I would argue that MIA has the best combination of aircraft traffic and spotting locations of any airport in the US, FLL isn't bad either if you like US domestic traffic. FXE and OPF are all GA traffic, but there are plenty of interesting things to be seen there as well (and if you're at MIA or FLL they're both within 45 minutes of driving.)
If you're up in North Florida, well, good spotting airports are far more sparse. You'll have to narrow down your region a bit more before anyone can give accurate suggestions.

If you really are looking globally for the best spotting airports, there are far too many to count. SXM of course is a spotter's Mecca. In Europe AMS, LHR, MAN, ZRH, and plenty others are famous for the spotting opportunities. Within the US JFK, MIA, LAX, and ANC are popular, but there are plenty more with lots of potential. If you like GA, there are thousands of grass strips and small airports that have plenty of potential...

I think your question almost defeats itself because there are too many answers. Narrow down the region or the type of aircraft you want to see, then you may get some better responses.

The traffic is very good and the arrivals literally never stop, but there are better airports for the quality of the photography locations.

MAN used to be the UK's best but a new fence is changing all that.....

I would disagree. LHR has a myriad of different locations. A great place for aircraft photography.

OPF isn't very good for viewing traffic (really no place to watch movements), but it is great for all the static aircraft parked there. Between the scrap yards cutting up DC-10s and 747s, the fly-by-night cargo planes (Beech 18s, E-120s, etc), airline MROs (737s, MDs, etc), and assorted GA traffic (including everything from DC-3s and 4s to private 727s), there's plenty to see through the fence. Just drive around and see what you can find, the variety has changed substantially every time I've visited.

Quoting FloridaSpotters (Reply 6):

LHR has loads to see, but no easy spotting areas. Everything around LHR involves spotting from private properties around the fence, so sorting out a place to park and where to walk to can be difficult for those who have never been there before. Both times I've tried for LHR spotting, I've been foiled by the wonderful London weather, so there's that to contend with as well. If you're interested in LHR, do a search for past threads, there's plenty of information out there.

Different of course for those with a convenient back garden.....

Seriously though, unless you love landing/departure shots or have a lens that can be poked through the fence, your choice of locations is limited. Until recently, MAN was the undisputed king of UK airports from a photography perspective...

New fence is quickly ruining all that though. Pretty soon I reckon the best UK photo airport will be BHX.

I've had pretty middling luck. It's just such a massive airport to navigate (I've never had a car when I've been there) and you need the light, the weather (that's the hard part,) and your location all to work at once. Granted I have never arrived there with a great deal of knowledge of its operations. But it does have the advantage of pretty-near-nonstop activity.

The famous field at the end of Myrtle Avenue (27L arrivals) is not private property and easily accessible by bus/tube. Nor is the area around the Rising Sun pub in Stanwell (27L departures) but you do need a car for this.

If you can't find a spot you like here: http://www.plane-mad.com/airport-spo...gdom/london-heathrow-lhr-egll.html you're simply not trying   .

I would add the viewing park at CLT as one of the Good Places in the US. Best with an Easterly wind but still acceptable without.

How tall is the fence going to be? It would have to be at least double the current height to ruin most of the pictures you've posted.

Whatever.......

SO many... the beach, Shep's Mound, Dog Park, International Terminal, Qantas Drive just to name a few.

With SYD the best location differs depending on time of day, runways in use, etc etc, just like most airports. Here are a few of my shots from SYD:

I hope that gives some idea of how SYD is. There are many FAR better photographs than mine at SYD on Anet. Chances are you'll bump into some Anetters at SYD, I know I have met several and got many tips from them too. Best of luck and my apologies for the shameless self-plugging of my photographs!

Charlie.

14ft. It won't ruin all spots but it will certainly hinder those without ladders. It's already gone up around the pub but unless the subject is heavy it doesn't do much damage.

Also DCA. There's Gravelly Point just north of runway 1/19. The parking lot of the Air & Space Museum at IAD is good too, but it was $15 the last time I went there. There are probably better places and other options that are free.
