I've never photographed airplanes at San Diego before, and I want to see the Capital Cargo 727 flight in particular. Unfortunately I live quite a distance from this airport so I don't think I can catch it arriving even if I get up very early. However looking at the flightaware history for the return flight it looks like I might be able to see it leaving at around six to seven PM. Is this the case, and if so, where is a good location to spot from? Thanks.

You may try Harbor Dr Laurel St you can see departures from runway 27 the parking lot is free and no one bothered me when I stayed with my friend a couple years ago. Also there is El Prado and Balboa Park or NTC Park hope you have fun

For the departure around 6:30 p.m., you probably want to use the parking lot on Harbor Drive, but keep in mind you'll need some way of gaining some height in order to be able to photograph over the fence. Using a step ladder or standing in the back of a truck would be ideal: you'd be able to get an image similar to the following:

If you don't mind photographing the 727 after it's already airborne, you might be able to stake out a spot west of the terminals and the construction.

You might keep an eye on the flight trackers and try to photograph it on a day when it comes in late. Normal arrival is around 8 a.m. if I'm not mistaken.

Good luck!
