Due to the massive wildfires in Bastrop County, the DC-10 tanker has been brought in to provide air support. The Tanker is parked at AUS until tomorrow, when it will start flying missions to drop retardant over the fires. It will be a good opportunity to get pics

I hope they're successful in finally containing the massive fire. I lived in Bastrop for a year in 1988/89 (as a foreign exchange student) and heard the house I was staying has burnt. To imagine the massive DC-10 over Bastrop, wow...

PS: according to local media, it is still unclear if and when the aircraft will be used. They talked about today (Friday) but it might be used to fight other fires, not necessarily the Bastrop one. Apparently it is not that easy to set up the infrastructure for the retardants.

From what i have read locally from houston spotters, the DC-10 is headed just north of houston to help contain the fires near Magnolia.
