Hello, my Name is Ralf Drews and member of Frankfurt Aviation Friends. Regarding all the questions about spotting in FRA, we organized a website to give useful informations for spotters visiting Frankfurt. What you should know is explained on the spotter information site, informations about expected traffic, first landings etc. will be displayed if available.
So please, take a look at :

www.frankfurt-aviation-friends.de

Thank you and Greetings from Frankfurt,

Ralf Drews

Thank you, I hope you'll enjoy it. By the way: I've been there last Friday and there is no work at the former platform. I suppose it must have something to to with the cold weather or with another project. It seems, the reconstruction will not start that soon and when I think of the construction they made at the A5, it took more than 3 months to renew this place.
But the other positions are quite alright, its easier to get the planes you wanted for. Only the distance between 25L and 25R is a problem, because it can take up to 15 or 20 minutes driving to the new runway. While 07 is in use, its possible to walk (or with a bike) from 07R to 07L (to walk ca. 15 minutes). Most of the traffic at the new runway is Lufthansa (all types except A380 / 747 or MD-11). Can be boring, but when you want to get Boeing 737 or A320 series of Lufthansa, its a good chance to complete the fleet.

I heard that almost everything was now using the new Kelsterbach runway?

Thank you very much! The only thing I may say to add is coordinates so people can put them in their GPS. Some of the locations you have really don't have great directions on how to get there. I am planning to try and head out this Saturday. Website Bookmarked!

@JatTrax: both runways are used almost 50:50. Most of the large planes coming are B747 / A380 or B777. B747 and A380s or MD-11s, all of the freighters, bizjets and maintenance flights will (have to) use RWY 07R / 25L. What you're gonna find at the new runway are Lufthansa ERJ, CRJ, A320series, A340, some freighters as DHL or Aerologic and carriers from Russia as S7, Transaero or Aeroflot. British operators, KLM and Swiss also. Last Wednesday we had AC A330 there, but no TAM. JAL, ANA, Air China or Korean will use the new runway, but if Korean should switch to A380 in March, this carrier has to use the old 07R / 25L. But sometimes, I don't know why, you're gonna find TAM, Emirates or Qatar coming down the new runway. It is unforseeable.

Looks like this weekend is going to the first weekend in a long time that the weather will be good for spotting! I will defiantly be out there. FRA one day and maybe HHN.

Hey Guys,

Im heading up to FRA tomorrow well today the 14th and Im trying to get better instructions on getting to the new spot at 07L/25R. The website above is great, but I am not from Germany or the local FRA area and I only know the A5 spot and 18 spot. I am looking for more precise directions on getting to "The Dune" and where to park the car.

Also this spot
"Line Up RWY 18 / RWY 07 C / RWY 25 C: A relatively new spotting position is near the line-up for RWY 07 and RWY 18 situated above the street tunnel wich crosses the new taxiway"

The only other spot I have been able to find is under 07R.

Thanks!

Ryan

Speaking of Frankfurt Spotting: Does anyone know what happened to the Frankfurt Aviation Forum? It seems to be members only site now and registration does not work anymore. How can we see the wonderful FRA pictures again?

Going to FRA on 10th/11th March. Saw that the viewing terrace will be shut - Is this really the case? Nothing mentioned on the official site about it closing in winter.

And do they still do the airport tour?

Guess thats not so bad then!

Have to check out of the hotel at 12:00 and my flight isn't until 18:00 so was hoping to kill a couple of hours at the Viewing terrace. Least the bus tour will take up about an hour or so.

@LH422 and Supera380:

They had some trouble with the members and fired a lot of them (speaking about 60% of the registrated users). But, there is a brandnew forum now, you're gonna find it here:

http://frankfurt-aviation-friends.de/Index.html

click at the small forum logo and the link leads you to the site. You only have to register, switch your language (German or English) and after registration is accepted, you're in the forum...easy. One of our ideas was, to make it better than the others. Posts in English are allowed!!!!

Cheers from Frankfurt,

Ralf

Quoting LH422 (Reply 9):
Does anyone know what happened to the Frankfurt Aviation Forum?

It seems to be online again. Nice pictures of the first SQ A380 and NH B787 flights...
