Im passing through Frankfurt eddf next week and the week after that(will be there 10 hours in total),i was speaking to a German friend who said security there might not be happy with me taking pictures of aircraft.

I don't know what your friend is talking about. http://www.frankfurt-aviation-friends.eu/spotterinfo/spotterinfo.html
The only complaint I heared was about crowds (and their cars) at the new "North-West" landing strip in the first weeks after it opened blocking entrance for fire fighter staff located there but nothing from security itself.
EDIT: "North-West" is not allowed to operate A380, MD-11, Boeing 747.

Likewise, I will be passing through Frankfurt on the Wednesday and will have the entire day for spotting and the weather isn't looking too bad. The only downside is the wind will be from the NorthEast so RWY 07's will be in use making spotting hard for anyone travelling by foot only.
My plan was to head to the platform by RWY 25L and just photograph from there. Does anyone know if it's possible to walk from the terminal to here and if so, how long is the walk?
Cheers,
Dave

For weather check www.wetter.de Next Wednesday, with forecast daytime temperatures of -3C or so, standing outside for an extended period would be hard going, I think.
Thanks Janis, are you sure the location beside RWY 25R beside the A5 and the Intercity Hotel are not walkable?

-3oC is nothing I've spent a day in -18oC in Helsinki and I'm sure a lot of the Northern Europe photographers have bared worse. As long as it's clear, it'll be worth it.

You want to go to 25L, don't you? 07L/25R is the new "North-West" strip north to A3.
You are able to walk. Google Map is not designed for walks, but it will give you an idea: http://g.co/maps/nbzmz
EDIT: Bus line OF-64 connects Terminal 1+2 and a bus stop nearby spotting point.

Hello cc2314
when will you be there at FRA? I'm planning to go at FRA on wednesday morning at ca. 08:00. Maybe I could pick you up and take you to the positions by car.
And, by the way: here is a short report about 07 from Jan 15, 2012

Quoting Rotate (Reply 8): There is free shuttle bus from the terminals to the Intercity Hotel. From there it is a 5 minute walk ....
I did indeed mean RWY 25L, sorry about the confusion.
Regarding the Intercity Hotel bus, I'm assuming it's OK just to get off at the hotel and simply walk to the viewing area? What about on the way back as I realise there is a 5 euro fare for hotel users to catch the hotel bus back again, can non hotel users also just pay for the bus back to the airport again?

Whilst you were referring to cc2314, I might also bump into you on Wednesday if you're out and about, although it seems I'll be at the platform beside RWY 25L (near Intercity Hotel) trying to photograph the departures from RWY 07C.
Regarding your RWY 07 arrival photographs from Sunday, is it possible to photograph a more frontal and rear view of the aircraft as it approaches and passes? Or do trees and fences block these possible views, limiting photographs to only side shots?

Hello legoguy,
Well, you can do such pictures there. But they are coming from left to right over the trees and passing you by. Its only a question of the position there and the angle.
I'd like to send you some more photos from there. Can you contact me via our website?

cc2314, no problem. I dropped in at 8:30 at 07L with outside temperature around -9°. I've checked the reconstruction area and found a socket filled with nothing and surrounded by a concrete frame (and bricks). I made a picture, its online now.
Situation at the positions at FRA (01.02.2012)
RWY 07L appr: nothing changed, only the illegal railway crossing is closed finally. In the first weeks of the new RWY I've seen a lot of people crossing the railway tracks to shorten the way (and their lifes).
Line-Up 18 / 07C: same as above, no changes.
RWY 07R appr and RWY 18: without the platform not usable.
07C dep: still a good position for arr and dep aircraft. It was a strong wind from Northern directions so RWY 18 was not used and all aircraft departed via 07C.
Visitors deck at Terminal 2 remains closed until Summer Season begins (end of March I think)
On weekends all of the locations will be crowded by visitors, most of them arriving by car. Car parking is difficult as usual and the situation will not getting better in future. Police is not amused about the extra duties they have with illegal parking at the locations and they'll keep eyes on it.
And very important for all uf us: in Germany it is not forbidden to photograph airplanes, trains or boats or such stuff. I don't know from where the rumors came - it is not true. Only the use of Radio-Scanners will be punished.
