Hello everyone and greetings from Cork, Ireland.
During last autumn and with your advice I opted for the Canon 70-200 mm f4. This lens is great and I am enjoying using it very much and at Christmas time I received a very kind present of the 1.4 mk III teleconverter which is great and there is little or no loss of IQ when using it. Was also luky that a Euro 70 Canon 18-55 mm IS came my way and with the few photos for which it has been in use it has been very good and sharp and well worth the few euro.
I have been caught out just a few times lately when 400 mm or thereabouts would have been the better option and bearing in mind that a very nice Canon 100-400 mm is out of my price range for a while to come can anyone give comment on both the Sigma 120-400 and the Tokina 80-400 mk II version on which is better at the longer end? I appreciate that you get what you pay for but maybe some of you can give comment on one or both of the above lenses.

I'm using a Sigma 120-400mm and after a bit of a learning curve I am very pleased with it. I used a Tokina 80-400mm a few years ago, probably the older version and didn't keep it long. I wasn't that impressed.
I got the Sigma secondhand with a year's warranty so I think I did all right.
