All,

I'm aware there is a similar post on this but it's now 3 years old so looking for some fresh information!

I'm off to Madrid for a cheeky day on Weds 7th March and am looking for some tips and pointers to make the most of my trip. It appears, the majority of the time they use runway 33's for landings and 36 for departures. My main aim of the trip is to catch the various LANs, Aeromexico, Avianca and Aerolineas. I've looked at the arrivals and these appear to arrive between 11 & 14.30, therefore my plan was to shoot arrivals until then and head to the mound until sunset.

A couple of questions:

Do I need a car?
Can you rent bicycles in the airport?
Is there parking at the mounds or do I park in the town of Barajas and walk?
Can you get pictures of Avianca/LAN when they land from the mound or are they too far away?

Any help would be really appreciated. Obviously, if there are any locals around that could escort me around that would be awesome. I'll even treat them to lunch!

Thanks in advance.

Always after the picture you can't get..

I think is the best option because the spotting places are far from Terminals and there aren't public transport services to there.

All I know, after living in Madrid for 3 years, there isn't bike rental service at the airport.

At more or less than 500 metres of the northern mound (next to the front of 18R (36L) runway) and this is the view at night:

There is another mound at the eastside where this are the views (taken with a 250mm on my first plane spotting day of my life):

If the airport configuration is the regular one (the one you said) you must go to the Cago Area entry or to Torrejón de Ardoz town.

If the configuration is the other one, landing on 18, you can have some pictures like these (taken with a 200mm):

And this is the view from Barajas town platform view, next to the road tunnel:

I hope that could help you.

Let me know anything.
