Why: Historical location, The 'Lion of Waterloo' in the background, people climbin to the lion watching the flight-formation (actually I was there that day)
But: The special markings of '25 years' are applied in, I think 2001, so it means that helicopter was at the time of that picture, 9 years flying around with that marking. Don't know if they changed it to 30 years in 2011 ...

You don't see takeoffs like that at LAS all too often. I browse the LAS photos on a regular basis and just one that was recently added impressed me as it's not the typical LAS night shot taken from an a/c on approach to or departing from LAS:
I like how the MGM Grand and the buildings of CityCenter are lit up providing an almost otherworldly background. It's an interesting photo of parts of the Vegas Strip as the only way a shot of the MGM Grand with the buildings of CityCenter in the background is possible is from LAS.
^ Certainly Chris.
Almost everything apart from 'on short finals' or 'landing rwy x/y/x' etc..... seems nice
Wasn't able to post for days due to some browser issue, glad its sorted now.
Missed posting so many gems. Just came across these two from a few days ago

WOW! Everything perfect in that shot, A2A, Dark background, nice weather, nice angle! Did I forgot anything? Oh yes ... the object: An MD11. Nice ... I am jealous.
And yeah I enjoy cabin shots too. Since I can't fly a variety of airlines I vicariously fly through these shots

That would probably be one of the scariest and also one of the most beautiful sights from that pilot's point of view! I can only imagine the adrenaline rush and heart thumping once he commences his take-off run!
The DoF in Kjell's photo really adds to the composition. Beautiful dreamy composition if you really keep looking at that baloon towing those two people

Lovely shot here from my old home airport of Manchester by a friend of mine. Great light and a great capture of a very familiar looking cold morning on 05R at MAN

Well composed!
I beg to differ. It is backlit - and distorted by the use of an excessively wide lens.
Only at Airliners.net is a backlighting considered bad for the shot. In the real world many photographers swear by it, using it to enhance the mood. And how is wide angle excessive when it's used to fit the subject in frame? Some like the wide angle distortion.
The photo didn't make me say "wow", but I see nothing wrong with the composition.

I really like this photo, mostly because it would not look out of place on a 1970's magazine cover - it makes me think of graduated filters. The whole thing seems at once to be warm and cold, contemporary and nostalgic. Well done.
