Hello everyone,
Since I am in Florida for a few days, I decided to go check a couple of spottig locations at Miami airport yesterday (Sunday). I did get to see a couple of nice looking cargo planes, but in the three hours I spent at "the holes" and el dorado furniture store, I haven't seen nearly as much as I was expecting from an international hub (other than AA).
So my question to locals: what is the best time of the day or week to see heavies or cargos ?
While I am here, is there any place where military planes can be seen around west palm beach ?
Thanks, I am sorry if any other subject exists on this but browsing from my phone is not exactly easy !

From my experience, Sunday is not a good day for heavy traffic although you can set some interesting shots instead (if you're willing to spend the day). Saturdays and during the week are generally busier. Also the time of the day matters as well. Early morning (7-10am or so) and later in the afternoon (3-6.00pm) usually have quite a bit of mixed traffic at the El Dorado location. The Holes is good for mostly passenger flights as most cargo come in on runway 9 (El Dorado location).
It might be helpful to check flightaware the morning or night ahead of your airport visit. That way you can get an idea of the busier times and plan accordingly.

I don't think the light is the greatest angle this time of year. i was down there last month, and I wasn't too happy with the angle of the sun @ Eldorado.I had a great time there, don't get me wrong. I love Miami ,but ....

Hello,
I was at el dorado yesterday Saturday, not much happened before 9:30, but then some cargos came and went, and I got to see the Europeans flights arriving in the early afternoon except the Air France that landed on the other runway. Light wasn't too bad for me, I'm not an experienced spotter so if there are no harsh shadows and planes flying, I'm happy I also liked the thunderstorm clouds in the background with the brightly lit plane.

I was there on Saturday as well. I was in the crowd sitting in the shade under the tree. Were you by rock or standing on it? Next time don't be afraid to introduce yourself. There were several A.net (or former A.net) members including myself there for most of the day. Yeah the thunderclouds in the background made for some nice contrast. Got a couple great shots myself.

I can't say that I am an outgoing person...I'm trying to move to West Palm Beach for work (if Pratt doesn't lay off another 300 engineers...), so I'm hoping to go back eventually. Next time I will.
It was certainly fun to see for myself that a lot of people enjoy this as much as I do.
